The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.
The decision was made that the Grizzlies could no longer move forward with Gasol on and off the basketball court.
The deal allows the Grizzlies to gain salary cap relief, as Brown is in the final year of a deal that pays $9,075,000.

Is this enough to make Kobe happy?

Holy crap. They just gave Gasol away. That is going to be a huge front line when Bynum comes back.
Big and bold

That is a Laker type move.
Congrats to them as they feel the loss of Bynum and still come away with a big piece.
Well, forget the rumors about BK picking him up.

unreal. I simply can't believe thats the best that the Gizzlies were offered for Gasol.
Knowing BK

I bet we didn't offer than much killbuckner.
BK probably tried to steal him as well, and also asked for the Grizzlies to help pay his salary.
We need to make a couple of moves and solidify our PG slot.

How and why does this make sense? Are they not convinced about Conley or are they on the verge of moving Conley to Portland should the Kidd trade not go through? That is some crazy moves, and the Hawks could use one of them for sure.

Hey KB !!! maybe you will now believe they can trade Swift for Collins straight up
The fear: it's possible they would be able to offer Smith a max contract this summer... one more team.

TD- the Hawks couldn't offer a firstrounder until 2010. But wow- I mean when it comes down to it the Grizzlies just traded Gasol for whats likely to be 3 non-lottery picks. I just am astounded no one would give up more than that.

Anybody think that they aquired Gasol just to move him to NJ for Kidd?

D21- ha, well at least this trade puts the grizzlies on the FA market this offseason. (Josh Smith is a happy man right now) Collins has another year on his contract. Even worse is that Swift has a player option- if he were truly unhappy in memphis he could have opted out.

If the trade goes through then Gasol couldn't be used to acquire Kidd this season. Kidd's salary is too high.

People wanted to trade Horford or Smith for Gasol? Eddy Curry got traded for more than that lmao. That's basically Gasol for two three late 1st round picks.
Time to go get Critt or Lowry.

Bulls fans must be going absolutely livid right now.

The funny thing is the Grizzlies GM is the same guy who traded Joe Johnson for Rodney Rodgers as a rookie. Jerry West asked for Ben Gordon and Luol Deng for Gasol not even a year ago...Chris Wallace asked asked for two late 1st round picks and a 3rd string pg after he already has two good young pgs. This is one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history.

Can't be done right now. They now have three heavy contracts and should feel good about the rest of the season.
It's now time for LA to move Lamar.

Ha- I wonder how many teams are frantically offering expiring contracts and a late first rounder for Mike Miller right now

Now that I think about it, doesn't this create a Eddy Curry/Zach Randolf logjam in the front court now? I mean both are back to the basket players that play well out the post.
And the Lakers should use Odoms contract to try and get kidd honestly. Thats if Jersey wants talent back. If they want cap space, maybe not.

I'm still in shock. When I saw the ehadline on the computer I thought the Lakers were going to be giving up Bynum or at the very least Odom and ALL their decent young players outside of Bynum. (Ariza,Farmar,Crittenton,Turiaf, etc). The Lakers got Gasol without giving up one of their top 4 players(Kobe, Farmar, Bynum, Odom). If this is the best they could get for Gasol(trading him in the same conference)then I wonder what BK's "standing offer" was?
