Hawks 'run' to win

The Hawks ran at will, defended well, piled up 28 assists and snapped a three-game losing streak. They looked like they enjoyed themselves on the floor for the first time in weeks.

"The most important thing for us is to really, really make a concerted effort to push the tempo," Childress said, echoing a refrain he and several of his teammates have sounded for months. "Even on makes we need to get out and run the [fast] break.

"We'll get into the half-court sets, we know that. But we can save that for the end of games. The first three and a half quarters, though, we've got to roll and make teams keep up with us. And for 48 minutes, I don't think most teams can."

Philadelphia will try to match the Hawks stride for stride Monday night at Philips Arena.

The Nets had no chance.

Not even with Jason Kidd, one of the finest up-tempo technicians in the game, running the show. And not with fast break specialists Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson flanking Kidd.

"The Hawks had a little more juice than us," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "If you look at it, they had 58 points in the paint and 23 fast break points. They clearly had more energy than us. We just couldn't keep them out of the paint. They were a couple of steps quicker and a couple of steps faster than we were."

That says it all doesn't it? RUN FOR FOUR QUARTERS!

That is exactly what everyone here has been saying for awhile.

The Hawks have done a good job running in the first half for the last couple of months but then slowed it down in the second half when they have a lead. That crap needs to stop.

Joe's hurting as we know for sure now! Coach Woodson needs to stop worrying about Joe and allow the rest of the guys to play their game. There is no reason to slow the pace of the game down when our success depends on the up tempo game. I hope Woody's not slowing things down due to Joe.

If Joe's injury is the reason he has been struggling to this degree, he should be rested for one or two games.

I thought with our current lineup and lack of a PG that it wasn't possible for us to run? :D

That isn't what I meant in my post. My post was about how we clearly slow it down late in games on purpose.

I never said we shouldn't run, I just said we can't be a consistent winner doing it because of our PG's. That being said, we can be inconsistent and make the playoffs in the East and it's our best chance.

We need Joe during this home stand. If he needs to rest the leg I hope he can hold out until that brutal west coast trip. Until then maybe cutting the minutes some and keep the foot on the gas might help. 38 minutes on a night when he couldn't buy a shot isn't much rest.

By the way he was running the floor during the first was shocking to me. He was back peddling as if there was no injury and it really caught me off guard. I hope he can get his shot back soon because we're going to need it to finish out the week against three playoff contenders.
