Hawks Stats Crew Screw up Again

I knew something was wrong briefly during yesterday Philly game when I saw Woody and his assistants emerging from their half-time meeting with their eyes glued on the Official Halftime Scorer's Sheet. There was a brief meeting with the lead official that night, Joey Crawford, and Sekou Smith confirms that the stats crew had, in fact, made another blunder by taking points that were scored by Tyronn Lue and awarding them to Josh Smith.

The initial thought was that the Hawks had been shorted two points.

I mean this stats crew has already cost the team $50,000 for the Miami mistake.....someone needs to be fired this time. This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable.

This ain't scoring a high school game....this is the NBA.

And it's obvious that this crew is totally inept.

Find a new crew. I mean is it really that hard to look and see who scored the points, and write that down?

actually in a fast paced game, it is kinda hard. they have a lot to keep track of. I work at a gym in chicago and college teams play there and Im glad that I havent been asked to do the scorekeeping yet. Shot clock is more my thing. that junk is easy, but then again, like what was already stated, this is the NBA not high school. Someone needs to get fired.

It's BK's fault.

Does anyone know what the position pays? Also, it would be interesting to know how the local scorekeeper compares compensation-wise to other teams. I just like to have more info when throwing someone under the bus.

This is such a disgrace. I am truly embarrassed to be a fan of this "organization" some times. Something has to be done with these clowns. You don't hear about this much in the rest of the league, yet it happens with our scorers on a regular basis. It is pathetic.

Stat crew members earn $150 a game.

I don't know where it compares compensation wise to other teams....and that's neither here nor there.

When you cost your team $50,000 and you must replay a game...something that hasn't happened in over 25 years....yes, you do deserve to be thrown under the bus. Are other stat crew screwing up like this?

This is the third time in two years this has haoppened.....come on Evil!

I actually work at the scorers table for my college's basketball team, it's harder than it looks. I'm the PA announcer, but im seated right next to the official scorer and I still don't know how he does it. The hardest ones are probably tip ins since we only get one angle at the game and it goes so fast.

as far as the pay goes, I'm interning as the PA $75 a game for me, as far as the scorer, probably a little more.

ASG if You are reading this...I would not mind being Ryan Cameron's back up PA announcer!

It may be hard, but it is their job to get it right. Who cares what the pay is. If you are screwing up with your work consistently no matter the pay you should be fired. You don't hear about screw ups like this around the league and we have them twice a year it seems. That is inexcusable.

Can't the videos resolve these issues....

With all the technology, there are so many ways to validate the stats, namely the replay videos.
There should be more than enough resources to get it right.

Are you telling me there is only one person responsible for this duty? That sounds like a problem waiting to happen!

All the scoreboards and buttons and there should be no doubt that the stats are correct.

I'm not for throwing anyone out of the job; just put in full-proof measures that these things won't happen. Even Steve Hollman or D3 could give you the answer!

I have no doubt that it's a hard job but having a hard job isn't an excuse to do a bad job at it. The fact is that our scorers are probably the worst in the league, its the only group of scorers that has been in the news... and they've been in the news a couple of times.

Worst in the league is an understatement. It really is pathetic that this is happening. Something has to be done.

Thanks for the info.

I have no problem with demanding more competency from the scorekeepers and firing them for incompetence. The comparison to other teams was to know whether the ASG was operating on the cheap, so I should assign some blame there. The question about how much they make was to determine if I would throw my hat in the ring as a possible replacement scorekeeper. I'm still undecided about that.
