6-foot-8 Feenstra bolsters roster full of height

Eight of the players on the roster are 6-foot-3 or taller. The team, which opens its first season in May, selected Katie Feenstra, who at 6-foot-8, is the tallest player in the league.

"We are really big," Meadors said. "Right now this is our roster and I really like this team."

Each of the other 13 teams in the league protected six players. Atlanta was allowed to pick one player from each franchise.

"Some of them have seen a tremendous amount of playing time, some have not," Meadors said. "The players we've selected have been good people. Have been great in their local markets and have had tremendous achievements in international basketball during the WNBA offseason."

The Dream, who can bring 18 players to training camp on April 20th, will also add players through free agency and the college draft.

"I know that we will pick up players out of the college draft and give them a shot to show what they can do," Meadors said. "I would like to keep 13 if we can fit them under the salary cap. We could go with 12. You have to have 11."

Feenstra has started 40 of 102 games for Detroit over the last three seasons, She has averaged 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds over her career.

"Rick Mahorn up in Detroit and Bill Laimbeer have both really helped her," Meadors said.

Well, except Feenstra hasn't played 102 games for Detroit. She spent two seasons with San Antonio. Stupid AJC.
