Woodson + Joe Johnson = Losing

Post#1 » by Sultanofatl » Mon Feb 11, 2008 9:09 pm

I've read several quotes where the great coaches say you need that one player on your team.......preferably your best player.....be an extension of the coach in mentality, approach to the game, playing style etc......I think Woody and Joe are oil and water.......the closest we have to a guy on this team who seems to be compatible with Woody like this is Hortford......but he's not a leader on this team......also I've seen several quotes where Woody seems to be out and out challenging Joe.....directly attributing losses to him.......now if you're ask'n me to choose between Woody and Joe.....I'm pick'n Joe......
If it counts luck is worth the same as skill

I don't know if I necessarilly agree that Joe and Woody are incompatible. Joe actually seems to fit the type of game that Woody wants to play: walk it up with a spaced out floor; like Dallas or something. Granted Joe isn't a leader, but he isn't necessarilly our best player (probably our best offensive player though).

Woody's system doesn't work with this team, you are right about that. Its not because of Joe though, its because the team is built like a high octane machine and Woody likes to grind it out but we don't have the floor spacers for it.

BK is at fault too. If we want to keep Woody here and play slow and tough, we need better personnel for that. If we want to play up-tempo and take advantage of our athletes, we need the personnel for that whether Woody is here or not.

Woody and JJ have definetely been losers during their time there. Is it fair to judge either of them basd on the hand the have been dealt? Probably not. But neither of them seem to have that winning mentality. And I think their lack of leadership ability is a big reason we see this team take games off like the Houston. In order to become a consistent winner we need to have guys at the top who will do whatever it takes to win.
