Suggestions for 10 day contracts

Post#1 » by evildallas » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:12 pm

We need a few warm bodies to fill in:

Might I start by suggesting the following D-League All-Stars for tryouts.

Jeremy Richardson 6-7 190 25 yrs old 25.3 PPG 38.5% 3 pt shooting.
Rod Benson 6-10 225 23 yrs old 12.4 PPG 11.8 RPG 1.3 BPG
Andre Barrett 5-10 173 26 yrs old 18.5 PPG 9 APG
Kaniel Dickens 6-8 235 29 yrs old. 20.6 PPG 42.9% 3 pt shooting.
Elton Brown 6-9 250 24 yrs old 20.2 PPG 11.2 RPG
Lance Allred 6-11 250 27 yrs old 16.6 PPG 10.1 RPG

Maybe we get lucky and some one impresses.

Any other suggestions?

I thought Jeremy Richardson had made a roster? Did he get cut? I'm a huge fan of him and wouldn't mind us taking him on for the rest of the year. He can shoot the lights out.

Not sure on Jeremy. He did get signed by San Antonio, but I thought he was later released. Possibly to make room for Damon Stoudamire.

im looking at the new roster now and having Solo and Zaza as the prime backups at the 4/5 spot is kinda alarming. I think we are gonna have to get a big from somewhere. Lets just hope that Afroman is working the phones with somebody to get us a big.

Hawks will sign an NBDL player to a 10-day on Monday, so that they'll be in LA ready to play by Tuesday night.

Yes, but the Hawks pretty much already have an NBDL-type big in Jones. They need a more experienced big who's good at rebounding.

I'm suprised that Kinsey hasn't been picked up. For all of you who fell in love when Shelden's late season play while we were tanking...Kinsey averaged 19 ppg in April last year. A 23 year old 6'6 guard with nice handles like Crawford/ Salmons. I don't understand why he isn't on a roster.

Kinsey also had a great game against us right before he was released by Memphis. I like him a lot.

But Richardson is the guy I want. I really liked his shooting and enthusiasm when he was here last season. I think he is a legit NBA talent that could be a nice role player if given a chance.

I think we need a 3rd PG, a wing and a PF/C so my votes are for

Andre Barret

Richardson/Kinsey

Benson/Brown/Allred (in that order)

Found this list. Doesn't really change my opinion on anything. I champion Rod Benson to see if he can rebound some. I'm content with Salim/Chill functioning as the 3rd PG. If we have injuries there we are screwed and I don't see Barrett as changing that. I like Jeremy Richardson as a wing also. I would probably sign another C as well. Justin Williams wouldn't be a horrible idea, but maybe Jelani McCoy or Jackie Butler could be an idea.

I've pretty much given up the thought of trading for additional help. The only bullets I think that BK has left are Zaza and Chill. Chill could bring help, but the big problem is that any salary we take on next season without sending out some brings us closer to the luxury tax. I have faith the ASG will exceed the cap to resign Josh Smith, but if it means paying luxury tax then I become a lot less sure.

I can actually come up with a couple deal ideas that could work, but I'm not sure they're worth it or if they could be pulled off in time since we have little to negotiate with.

I'd take Jackie Butler if he's in any semblance of shape. He's still only 22...Brandon Bass and Desagna Diop were viewed as useless at 22 but they are now rotation players on a very good team. Butler was a top high school recruit and can actually score down low. He is also a big body...not a good defender by any means but some one you can throw at Curry/Z/Howard(like Lo)who won't get pushed around like Horford does at times.

Butler,Richardson, and Kinsey are the only names that I would be interested in as far as young guys. Mike Wilks makes the most sense as a 3rd pg but that's not really a need right now IMO. I found out that Wilks is already under contract with Washington so it's too late anyway.

I personally like the idea of a 3rd PG, unless Woodson is willing to play Salim as such... Mike Wilks also wouldn't be bad in that spot.

Another C is a decent idea, but he might see minutes over Solomon... so I'd rather us look at a young guy who might be a useful backup in the future as well.

The only thing I don't like about Kinsey is that he doesn't bring shooting range. If we aren't getting shooting range out of the extra player we should just stick with Super Mario getting those minutes.

I wish I knew what shape Butler was in, but I hadn't heard a word about him since he got bought out by Houston. The fact that he has already been paid make me fear the worst.

Really these guys aren't expected to play many minutes, just fill in where needed and give us enough bodies to practice.

I think Butler and Freije would be great additions. They aren't necessarily guys that work with our style of pace, but they could contribute in important areas. A 3rd PG might not be a bad idea, but I think we could wait to see if someone of note gets released or sign one should we have an injury.
