This team needs size

that was my main beef with the Bibby acquisition. If you have limited resources--what kind of answer is making a small team smaller and losing the financial output to potentially grab a good big man? This team is going to win with 6-8 players? Look at NBA history

you have to be kidding me. You think the crappy minutes they were getting from shelden and Lo wright were so important that the hawks should have passed on the first legitimate PG they have had in years!? Lo wright is just an expiring contract. Shelden probably wouldn't have even had his 4th year option picked up. They didn't give up anything of value.

You got to give up something to get something.

I think Hawks made the right move.

With the type of team that they have, I think there's enough firepower for them to do well with "cheaper" players in the post.

The Hawks needed another center before & after the Bibby trade. Zaza has been bad on both ends of the floor the ENTIRE season and has never helped us on the defensive boards. I don't think Solo could do much worse, but then again Solo might be a disaster in the rotation as well. Please go after Magloire, who at the very least can grab boards. Anything else would be a bonus at this point.

The Hawks need a backup pg now. I think Lue was overused but he was not a bad backup pg despite his flaws. Salim at pg will not work. He's not a point guard. There is a huge difference between a shoot 1st point guard and a shooting guard. He didn't play any point guard in college(which is a telling sign at 6'1)and was not drafted to play point guard in the NBA. He may have the occasional good shooting game but I think his below-average defense and bad pg skills will remain consistent. Salim should not play right now unless we have Bibby or Joe in the game to set up the offense. We need Law to get healthy quick and hope that he can play decent ball off the bench which I think he did before hurting his wrist. The good thing is that fixing a hole at backup pg is much easier than fixing a hole at starting pg.

We needed size, shooting, a veteran presence, and a starting quality PG. We got 3 of those things in 1 deal. The only drawbacks I can see was that the trigger may have been pulled a little late to get the most benefit and that we didn't make any other moves. Of course, I doubt that any other moves were available to us without either giving up the 2010 1st rounder or risking being unable to sign Josh Smith by taking on bad salaries.

We still have 2 roster spots open and I suppose BK is waiting to see if there are any veteran buyouts that he can sign. We have to be realistic as a fan base that teams like Boston, Phoenix, Dallas, etc. will be preferred destinations for the better vets. We'll have access to the leftovers. If he went ahead and signed a PG and a big from the D-League would they get court time with Woodson?

We'll likely have to make due with the roster we have unless we suffer an injury that will keep a player out extended time. Woodson has to be better at lineup management to keep a offense threat on the floor at all time and to not pull all starters off the floor at once and possibly most importantly is to occasionally ignore the rules of thumb about foul management. He can't always pull a guy with 2 fouls for the entire 1st half. He can't always pull a guy with 3 fouls for the 3rd quarter. He can't always pull a guy with 4 fouls for most of the 4th. Players are going to have to learn how to sometimes play with fouls because the bench isn't getting it done.

I agree... you can see the difference Bibby makes out on the floor where as with Sheldon, Lo and Lue they might have shown up a handful of times each (AJ did have his moments though )...

Depth was a problem and still is (Law coming back should help a little)... Other than Childress there's not much else though I expect to see a few new faces before the seasons over...

Trading for Bibby or not, we would only have the MLE or at the best a cap space being around the value of the MLE, so it doesn't change anything on a financial view (just the owners wanting to spend more to improve the team, which is a thing we were waiting for).

If you wanted to grab a good big man, you needed to let Lue, AJ and Wright expire, then certainly do not extend Childress and let him walk

What is better? Having a good big at 10M, or having Bibby, Childress and a big at MLE ?

You know how sometimes people talk about a guy's presence on the floor making the game 4 on 5 or something? This season with Zaza its been more like 3.5 on 5. He's worse than a 0 on both sides of the ball.

Get a D-Leaguer in there. Hell, grab a tall guy off the street.

Relating to evil's comment, this team as presently constructed is gonna have to play like the 04-05 Suns. We have a legitimately good starting 5 (Bibby-JJ-Marv-Josh-Al are the poor man's version of Nash-JJ-Q-Marion-Stoudamire) and one good player off the bench (Chil is our Jimmy Jackson). Other than that we have a bunch of inconsistent liabilities. Woody is gonna have to learn how to maximize the strengths of the starters because we really don't gain anything by having them out.

One of the most worthless threads started here in a while. One more guy to add to the ignore list...

Even if Bibby averaged 6ppg for the rest of the season the trade is still a coupe. We got rid of Lue and freakin' Sheldon. My only beef is that we didn't give up Zaza as well and keep Lo or AJ.

Lo<Zaza

Despite all his problems, at least Zaza has had his moments. Lo had none.

Solution to size problems = Signing Diop in the offseason

getting a big, or pure point guard, or 3pt shooter, etc, are all empty excuses.

the only thing the Hawks need is to stop running the offense through Joe and stop letting him, jump shoot the Hawks out of every game.

man, its so frustrating to see zaza play this poorly. imagine if he could play like has the past couple of years, he would alleviate our need for a consistent frontcourt backup and our need for an offensive creator in the second unit.
