Woodsen is on the endangered species list. Just list your candidates and  ...

Here is my name had to really put some thought into it "Billy Donovan"

I think he would fit right in and be a major attitude adjustment which is what the Hawks need.

This also reminded me of a thought I had a few months back... makes me scratch my head as to why we didn't try to grab Noah from Chi when the team benched him. *Sigh* nobody understands buy low sell high anymore...

And NO I am not a Gator

Hated seeing Adelman snathed up this summer.

Musselman seemed to do OK in GS, but I also heard they were happy to get rid of him. I thought he did a good job of taking them from very bad to respectable.

We need a young, intense assistant a la Avery Johnson or Iavaroni.

I would like to see Stotts again, Porter, Gentry, Flip Saunders (after the Pistons flame out in the playoffs and everyone blames him for his teams lack of consistant focus and effort again) or Karl (after he gets fired when his team loses in the first round of the playoffs again), Silas...there are plenty of guys really.

I personally would love Paul Westphal getting off the bench in dallas and being a head coach again. He would be my first choice.

I would rather rehire Mike Woodson than hire Larry Brown...okay, its probably not that bad, but damn close.

How about coach Skiles? He did a fine job in teaching hard work and discipline to a young squad in Chicago.

Stotts did do a pretty good job for us. I agree everyone on the team was nothing but hustle. Sura and Co... Not a bad call.

Scott Skiles is only a short term fix as he is too much of a @sshole. Much like Larry Brown is too much of a jerk that will trade half of the productive players the team will be better for a little then he will leave it worse than he found it.

I think Terry Stotts got the raw deal here and in Milwalkee the same way Westphal got screwed over in Phoenix and Seattle.

Stotts was winning some games, and being competitive with a line up of Jason Terry, Bobby Sura, Stephen Jackson, Chis Crawford and Joel Pryzbilla.

Woodson is allowed to be worse with Joe johnsons, Marvin Williams, Josh smith, Al Horford and Josh Childress.

Larry Brown can be eliminated as a candidate because we would have to fire one of his friends in Woody(he is a snake so you never know)and the $$$ might be too much for the Hawks. I also think Larry Brown wants to be the coach/gm(which he didn't get in Cleveland) and he secretly tried to get in New York. I could see him ruining the franchise and just leaving in a couple years.

Skiles is a good coach(stresses defense and rebounding like Woody but runs better offensive sets in the half court) but can't relate to players who aren't robots who do everything they tell him too. He basically ruined Tyson Chandler to the point that the Bulls had to trade him for 60 cents on the dollar. They literally had no communication during his last year in Chicago. An NBA coach has to relate to players with extroverted personalties(like a Josh Smith). If not then they belong in college.

I think the Hawks should go after Van Gundy,Paul Westphal, and a dark horse candidate is Darrel Armstrong(although it's a huge risk because he could be worse than Woody). He's never coached but he is basically an assistant coach/player that many players think will turn into a good coach like Avery Johnson did in Dallas.

For a long term coach, I'd lean toward Steve Smith as my first choice. During games, his comments about what the Hawks and Woodson should be doing sound pretty spot on. He's inexperienced, but... And it harkens back to the Hawks heydays of the 90s. He's been coached by Wilkins, Fratello, and Popovich, so maybe something rubbed off.

I'd take a flier on either Larry or even Hubie Brown, but not Van Gundy -- if you think Woodson slows down the Hawks.... Fratello, maybe, but given how many times he's already been Hawks coach....

Musselman, I like, but he may not be a fit; but I liked him back when he worked for the Spurs. I think Bzdelik is a lot better coach than he was given credit for in Denver.

When yall bring up Steve Smith, that reminds me of when Doc Rivers was doing games, and thought he was quite knowledgeable, and then went on to be the coach of the year, without coaching experience. Ya never know.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar....I think he's ready and deserves a shot.

He's worked on his introverted personailty and has done wonders for Bynum's game.

Steve Smith doesn't have any experience coaching so I'm unable to trust him. Mario Elie could be an option if we decide to go down that path and he brings both leadership and he's a winner. I believe our players would respect him very much and he could grab their attention.

Guys that old don't suddenly change their lifelong personalities. I would bring him in to work with our big guys, but I wouldn't trust Kareem with a head coaching job.

You know who I would trust though? Both Michael Cooper and Bill Lambieer. I think they should look some to the WNBA coaches more in the NBA. They run some pretty complicated offensive sets there and most of their players become defensively solid when they get to that level. (I know...I am probably one of 10 people left that still watches the WNBA)

Pretty good input Rip! Great "outside the box" thinking. I for one never considered even looking at the WNBA for talent. Kudos

Elie? If you want to go that route, how about Alex English. Much more coaching experience, and HOF cred to boot.

We want a coach sow bad but we're calling for a commentator to get the job? Wow. I wouldn't mind bringing Smitty in as an assistant/shooting coach.
