Perhaps the toughest season to be a Hawks fan

Post#1 » by Hawks » Fri Mar 14, 2008 1:14 am

At least for me it was. I had high but realistic expectations for this team. One was to win at least 40 and two was to make the playoffs. I thought everything would come together and that even Woodson couldn't screw this team up.

In the end all I learn is this team doesn't know how to win. Despite BK drafting players and bringing in players who have been winners elsewhere. The chemistry of this team is still bad. There players growth seem to have stopped. No one has taken their game to the next level.

Somehow Woodson still manage to screw everything up. I won't put all the blame on him. That is the easy way out. I'd give him 50% of the blame. The other 50% is on the players. I thought this was perhaps the most talented Hawks team we have had in quite sometime. A team built to be exciting and be ready for the new age of the NBA. Instead it turns out we overrated the players on this team. While they maybe built to run they do not have the HC to lead them and they are not smart enough to run.

Lastly we learn this team still doesn't know how to close out teams and doesn't know how to win. The previous strong points I thought were defense and high BBall IQ. Turn out they do not play defense as well as I thought and the overall BBall IQ of this team is very low. Even among the so called smart players on this team such as Marvin and Chill. Only Horford has demonstrated defense and a high BBall IQ.

This season has really worn on me too. But if we can just get into the playoffs it will feel a lot better.

It will all be worth it if Knight and Woodson are shown the door in the offseason.

I must hold my ground. The playoffs won't even excite me unless we get out of the first round. I can't stand seeing teams make the playoffs playing below .500 basketball. Orlando was the only team last year and there may be a couple this year.

Exactly. I'm ready for a new circus act to tandem with the ASG.

Well put. Deep in the dark corner of my mind, there's the lurking fear that they will hire somebody just as bad as Knight to replace him. Maybe they'll bring back Pete Babcock...

Its sucks to be bad when everyone knows you are going to bad bad, its worse to be bad when you expect mediocrity.

i expected 36 wins and with 19 games left we have 26. 10-9 against a weak schedule and my expectations are met. we knew coming in that this wasn't a .500 win team and guess what? this isn't a .500 team.

with that being said. i expect changes this offseason. woodson is gone and i think chill is going to be SnT. we are going to have to revamp this frontcourt and i think that the pressure is going to be on marvin to produce. he isn't going to get a contract this summer and he'd better get good fast. right now he isn't looking worth 30 million much less the 10 mil we expected him to be worth when we drafted him.

I expected 36 wins too. But I didn't expect us to be here because of a basic lack of leadership and toughness. We aren't a good team, but in the East we should at least be where Phili is right now.

i point mostly to leadership. mo cheeks has a team worse than ours in a better position and hubie brown led the grizzlies to multiple playof berths. woodson has almost been fired three times this year.

lack of BBall IQ is brutal.
