Post#1 » by Hood President » Wed Mar 19, 2008 4:03 pm

Since this was deleted, i am making this post once again. i know we cant beat boston in a 7 game series but i think we will be more competitive than people think. yes we dont match up well against the celtics(hopefull we can move up against detroit or orlando). but i dont see boston whoopin our a55. i know people are gonna think deferently but i dont care.

I'd be more than satisfied if we make playoffs. This is a franchise that has been losing for way too long, so just the fact you're there, people talk more abput you and we get some respect. If we won 1 game of that series, I'd be really happy, but we first got to make sure we make it that far.

I'm really torn on this - on the one hand, I really miss playoff basketball. On the other hand, my biggest fear is that a playoff birth might lead to new contracts for either Woodson or The General Manager Who Will Hereafter Go Unnamed. That would be a disaster, probably a bigger disaster than not making the playoffs.

Hawks can beat the Celtics.... IF Joe plays out of his mind for atleast 5-6 games, and Horford steps it up alittle bit and dominates Perkins.

but since Joe is so jump shot dependent, it is hard to string along 3-4 good shooting nights.

^Yeah... one game.

Even if everyone plays out of their mind, they won't win because Woodson is coaching.

Hood President,

I don't think the people that replied to you, including myself took it very seriously.

Seriously, this season is a success if we just get to the playoffs. After 9 years of not even being close to making it, that is the only thing that really matters to me at this point. If we make it, we will get to see our Hawks play in at least 4 playoff games. That'll be a joy in itself to me. It is a big leap from the 13 win season of a few years ago.

Next year is when we should hope and expect to get out of the first round. Our young guys will all be a year older and actually playoff-tested then.

I'd be happy just getting a win if we make it. This is the same team that just snapped Houston's winning streak at Houston.

I agree, just making the playoffs would be nice.

And Smith Generally plays well against KG.

the problem lies in no Hawk can slow down Pierce, no one is going to want to chase Allen all night and Rondo can shut down Bibby on the defensive end and blow by him on offense.

THEN you have to see that Boston is actually deep with house, posey, the occasional leon powe sighting, and Glen davis. Mike Woodson has childress and thats about all the bench that he will use because...well...he is a horrible coach.

I see the Hawks stealing a game, being competitive in about 1-2 others but for the most part, ugly ugly series it could be.

That is true even if I won't get excited and I don't expect the city too. I mean we are playing below .500 basketball and playing for the East doesn't help the ASG to sale the playoffs to the city of Atlanta.

Now, if we can get out of the first round, I would expect the city to pack the house. The players benefit the most by making the playoffs. They can break the expect to lose attitude that's been part of this team for nearly 10 years now.

I think that a matchup vs Boston in itself would generate enough buzz to sell-out the games.

I'm with Hood President, I been telling people for weeks (before Bibby). We have the players, it's everybody else that sucks.

it would sell out games but it wouldn't put fan confidence in the team. we need to avoid boston and detroit. let philly and washington get killed. i would much rather see cleveland or orlando that those two. a series win would put fan interest back into the team. and that should open the owners pockets up to get quality talent on the bench.

Any playoffs are better than no playoffs. The higher our seed the better our chance to have them last more than 1 series, but we're a long way out of 6th place.

I would be happy enough just getting to the playoffs let alone even winning a game. The 6th seed would be nice but we can't expect washington and philly to implode enough for us to move up.

It's been so long since we've had playoff basketball. I would hate to get swept, but just being there would be nice and would also do wonders for our young players.

The rest of this season is sort of like their playoff initiation. Personally i think the rest of this season is more important to the team than the inevitable spanking they will get in the first round, assuming they make it.

Absolutely. A sweep = infinitely more NBA playoff experience than Smith, Marv, Al, Chil, or Acie have ever seen.

The Celtics are so much better than the Hawks, it would really be out of our hands. Making the playoffs however, is entirely in the guy's hands and is therefore the better indicator of ability.

well, i will be happy if we make the playoffs. we have to have everybody play very well and especially marvin. smith usually plays good verses garnett(except for the first celtics game). joe is heating up, bibby is inconsistant, chills can play well most nights, zaza needs to play perfect.
