should we take a run a kwame brown?

I brought this up before and the idea didn't go over so well. I'm open to it depending on the price considering we need size on this team. At this point, I see no reason why we should keep ZaZa around for the final year of his contract, so I would much prefer Kwame backing up Al Horford.

ZAZA's deal was 4 year 16 mil. He has 1 year at 4 mil.. I would do a sign and trade with zaza and sign Kwame to a 3 year 12 mil deal.

Kwame Brown is a waste of perfectly good food and oxygen.

does Kwame have the time and talent to resurrect his career?.... well yeah, the odds are on his side.

so it all comes down to price.

as long as the Hawks don't sacrifice any cap space, i don't mind signing a 7 footer who can move his feet..... i mean, it can't be any worst than Lorenzen Wright.

Kwame would still need to put up some outstanding numbers for people to forget that he was a first overall pick. I still have my doubts that Kwame has the will and desire to even care if he puts up good numbers or not. Frankly the guy is a job, but we need some size coming off our bench, and I would prefer him over many of the free agent class.

Here's my FA player of interest order:

Diop
Rasho
Brown
Ely

Keep Zaza next year (unless you can get a late first early second);

Bibby / Acie / Speedy
JJ / Salim / West
Marvin / Chil / Richardson
Smoove / Zaza / Jones
Horford / Diop

That's the depth chart, but Smoove would swing to SF and Horford to PF and Zaza to C and Chil to SG.

^ i don't think Diop will be cheap.

Brown would be a horrible fit for the Hawks. Brown needs to go to a team like the Lakers, or Spurs were little will be expected of him and he can just chip in here and there.

I'd like him for the Bobcats as a 1 year tryout, essentially.

The Knicks will need a Center if their new GM does what needs to (yes i realize isiah is still in charge).

I could also see a team like the Timberwolves bring him, seeing as they'll have no "true" center on their roster (as of right now) for next year *doleac won't resign and theo won't go back*

I believe Rasho has a player option for next season.

Kwame is a decent man defender at the center spot but pretty much blows at everything else. I haven't watched him at all this season but i see him as a guy who would be a last resort if we could get him cheaply.

If you can get Kwame for the MLE or less, then he's not a DECENT man defender, he's one of the best post defenders in the league.

He's also a good offensive rebounder and mediocre to average on the defensive glass. He's an underrated passer and has little scoring ability.

But he'll come pretty cheaply, I expect.

I don't see why Rasho would come to Atlanta and pass up $8.5M to play on Atlanta. No offense to your team, I think the improvements you're making are wonderful for the Conference but I don't see it as anything but at best a lateral move to a team that'd pay him less, so it makes no sense.

Rasho is returning to Toronto. No one will pay him 8.5M.

As for Kwame, I would rather have a less talented player who loves to play than him any day. $4M per doesn't seem low enough to risk on him.

Kwame is never really going to turn it around and it has nothing to do with desire, or effort or talent for that matter. Yes he is 25, in tremendous shape and can do pretty much everything well on the defensive end that doesn't require him touching the ball.

You know why? Because he has the hands of a 5 year old girl size wise. he can't palm a basketball. He can't catch tough passes. he has some nice moves around the basket but is always losing his grip on the ball when he tries to go up. He gets ripped when he tries to dribble because he has so little control of the ball because of his tiny hands. He is like dude in that Burger King commercial.

But he is a great on the ball defender, can defend the basket well also. Plus the reasno he is better on the offensive glass is because he gets alot of tip ins. On the defensive side he has to actually catch the ball.

So no, he isn't going to be a force, but I think he would be a upgrade over Zaza as a back up big, because you know Kwame is going to play hard and play some defense.

When you are the #1 pick people focus on what you don't do well. If he is only getting 3 mil a year then you can focus on the things that he does do well. I would love to see the team take a chance on him because I don't think there is much chance that the team is going to spend the full MLE in free agency.

At the end of the day, I think it is important to remember that he is only 25 too. Someone MIGHT just take that chance near the end of the free agency season if he is all that is left. I don't see it happening though.

No one is going to gamble on his "potential" any more. In fact I think he might end up being undervalued. While he was with the Lakers he was a legitimately effective defensive big man. He was like a rich man's Jason Collins in that he is a mediocre rebounder and generally poor offensive player but he has an excellent feel for the defensive side of the game. Unlike some of the bigs on our roster, he actually has something that he excels at.

^^^ Exactly. Kwame is nowhere close to what people expected, but that doesn't mean he can't do some things. If we can get him for cheap, I see no reason not to have a solid defensive big off the bench.

we should bring him in. we need some quality size and he brings that.
