ANy interest in Andris Biedrins of GSW?
A sign and trade with GSW for Biedrins for Josh Smith.
Biedrins moves potential rookie of the year Al Hortford to power forward, Biedrins at center, and Marvin Williams at the small.

We've been through this drill before. Don't expect a lot of interest. I like Biedrins but i can't see trading Smith for him even though Smith drives me nuts sometimes.

I have said this before...I wouldn't trade Smith for Biedrins but it wouldn't be a horrible trade if we did. The trade makes no sense at all for GSW when looking at their roster. Smith can't shoot and he's not even close to being a center...a Smith/Wright front court would never work especially when the other only big man is Al Harrington who can't rebound or protect the paint.

... and thats why you will never be a GM of a basketball team.
As far as this trade, its intriguing but we'd definitely need more than just Biedrins.
Andris is a better rebounder and more efficient scorer. Smith a much more imposing defensive presence, scores at a significantly higher volume, creates more shots for others, and has a higher ceiling in terms of diversifying his scoring abilites.
I know that Biedrins will never become the shotblocker (or PnR defender) that Smith is, and he isn't strong enough to be a big post defender. I also doubt Beidrins well ever advance too far beyond what he is now as a scorer.
I'd like to see what a coach with an offensive scheme could do with the roster we have. I'd also like to see what the guys could do with an offseason together.

Biedrins is no more or less a Center than Al Horford is. Horford is stronger, bigger and only a inch taller yet you guys don't think he can play center. But a 6'11 skinnier guy is definately a Center? I don't get it.
I think Biedrins is a damn good player and I love his hustle on the boards, but honestly, I don't see how its much of a upgrade at the Center over Horford and I don't think he is a upgrade offensively or defensively over Smith.
Just don't see it.

What makes Greg Oden,Marcus Camby,Tyson Chandler or Sam Dalembert more of a center than Horford? You don't rebound or block shots with your head ....you do it with your arms.

No one here except Skyhawk(known Smith hater)would actually do this trade if it were on the table. However...Horford will not max his potential unless he's at PF the same way Smith was not maxing out his potential until we got rid of Harrington.

I keep saying this, but the difference between playing center and power forward are negligible. There really isn't that much of a difference between the two at all. Its all depending on the offense you are running.
You want him to like a PF, adjust your offense.
And this a different situation than the Smith/Harrington situation. That had nothing to do with a simple position switch. It had more to do with minutes and touches because Smith by default became the second/third offensive option instead of the 4th or 5th like he was when Harrington was here.

Rip...Smith moving to the 4 helped his defense and it helped create mismatch/quickess advantages he had that he didn't have at SF. That's another story though.
Horford is a PF. I think we can play him at center if we need him too(although we would need a real defensive center to back him up). Saying that there isn't much difference between PF and Center is wrong. He would have a much easier time guarding and scoring against(particularly posting up)players closer to his own size. I really don't care about this issue as much as others but it is what is is. Players like Elton Brand,Boozer,Amare, etc are always going to be much more effective at their natural positions.

I'd rather re-sign Smith and acquire a backup C (emphasis on defense) to clock enough minutes that we have a good 3 man rotation at the 4-5 spots (Smith/Horford/New Guy) with Smith also getting some minutes at the 3 allowing a 4th player to clock minutes at 4-5 off the bench as well to develop just in case. Horford would start at C, but clock a good portion of his minutes at the 4 spot. We have a strong back court and it would probably cost us our depth at the 3 spot (Marvin or Chill is the asset to ship for this big, Zaza won't do it). We'd still have a starting SF and for a change we need to try to fill key reserves less expensively than using a lottery pick on the bench.
Biedrins is going to command a salary that is greater than his contribution. I see him as a very good compliment, but not a guy to build around. My scouting of him is kind of limited because of how he's used. Maybe he ready for a breakout and bigger role, but I wouldn't have enough confidence in that to make a play for him.

The difference between a PF and Center?
Ask Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani.
