According to the AJC's Sekou Smith, the Hawks can expect an official protest of tonight's game.

My take is that David Stern will uphold the call on the court, thus, the Hawks will victorious. When you tread referee error waters, that's a very sticky situation.....one I know Stern doesn't want to touch!

This time the Hawks scorekeepers aren't to blame....the league's official are.

But in all honesty, the league CAN NOT screw us on this one.

We battlled it out....and won a tough one!

Thoughts? (And Toronto fans....basketball talk please! No insults.)

They aren't going to overturn a judgment call by their own official.

Who said it didn't? The raps got screwed...but they got screwed by the refs. It was a judgment call....if they overturned this then you can basically just overturn every bad call a ref makes down the stretch of a close game. This would not even be an issue if this game were in any other arena but Phillips.

Of course it did. Everyone here thinks you guys got the shaft. But the bottom line is Stern WiLL NOT reverse the mistake of a referee. And since they made the mistake with the clock here (not the scorekeepers), I don't think the call will be reversed.

Proof the clock did not start early. TJ ford clearly has the ball in his hands and the clock hasn't started.

You won a tough 1 in OVERTIME, not in regulation. But this game was not decided in OT, this was over and done with with the TJ Ford lay-in.

Well, again, if anyone is at fault here....it's the NBA officials.

And again, Stern WILL NOT question an official's 'on-the-court' judgement call. If he does, the league is opening itself up to a PR nightmare....on it's officiating.

After the Donaghy incident, this is peanuts. The league will do itself a major favor amongst Basketball world by correcting this error in the interest of fainess and integrity.

Actually all they would be doing is asking teams to protest every time they don't agree with a call. He's not going to overturn a judgment call by his own official.

Yes, you guys battled it out and took it in overtime. But why do we have to suffer as Raptor fans when we clearly won the ball game. It is an obvious mistake and it should be corrected by the league. Any other decision takes away from the integrity of the fans. The evidence is right there, give us our W.

What do the Hawks get for the wasted overtime then? Maybe an extra hour off on the starting time for the next game? It was a bang bang type of thing and it had the chance to be settled in overtime.

We understand the Raptors got the short end of the deal here. I expect the NBA will go against the Hawks here. They always do go against the Hawks. Any other team the NBA would chalk this up to a Ref mistake and apologize to the other team and move on. Seeing as it is the Hawks. They are going to go against them. Don't worry Raptors fans. NBA will award your team with the win.

A league spokesman told ESPN.com's John Hollinger after the game that referees can't review whether a prematurely started clock caused a shot to come after the buzzer. They can only review whether the shot actually beat the buzzer. That would make any Raptors protest difficult to win since the refs followed the letter of the law in disallowing Ford's shot.

A source told ESPN.com that three referees and the timer have the ability to start the clock, and there is technology to trace who it was in this instance. Normally in similar situations, the trail referee starts the clock, and in this case that was Lewis.

This is referee judgment and I expect as such, there will be not be a change... I can live with that.

However, the incorrect judgment was due to the inproper use and interpretation of available instant replay at the end of the gane... its not like it changed how things turned out afterward... the game would have been over with no time.

There's a slight out for the NBA to use here... "incorrect use of instant replay", that would not necessariliy open up a can of worms. I don't expect it however,
