What happens with Childress this summer? And, is he as strong a player as i think he is.....a pretty good starting SF who just happens to play on a team with one who is better (Smith) and another who has more potential (Williams).???

BK stated last week that offers for either Josh would be matched.

Chil is a great player who does some things very well and some things... not at all. He is great at getting out on the break, great at working the baseline and things that come from that (getting O boards, getting easy looks off of doubles) however he is a pretty weak man defender, isn't much of a playmaker, and rarely shoots the ball.

On the whole he's a great addition to literally any team in the league because he does certain things better than anyone else. He just can't be shoehorned into certain roles ie. go-to scorer or lockdown defender.

Smith isn't a small forward.

By the way, I wouldn't mind seeing Childress walk unless we can get him for a decent price. His stats are deceiving. He's a small forward who doesn't have much of an outside shot and doesn't defend or rebound on the defensive end very well.

If he left, it would open up more playing time for Marvin, who I think will continue to improve steadily.

Why would BK say anything other than that any offer would be matched. Its FREE to say that. It also is completely meaningless

I don't know, lying to your season ticket holders at a meeting held for them isn't exactly a great business move. I really hope they don't match any offer for Childress, though.

every team says that they will match every offer for their RFA's. Go back and look at how the Clippers were saying that about Odom and Andre Miller right before they let them leave.

Chil needs a TON of space to get his shot off so he rarely even shoots the ball. I also don't recall Chil hitting a shot off the dribble(or taking many shots off the dribble). His release is just too low and wierd to be able to shoot in traffic.

You also said that Philly would definitely offer Smith a max contract with a magical signing bonus that only a handful of players have. That doesn't look very likely(or possible)now.

His shot is incredibly ugly, and will be blocked unless he is wide open. He hardly ever takes and outside jumper or 3, but I guess his 3 point % isn't too bad.

Still, because of his shot mechanics, he can only take wide open jumpers, so I stand by the bad outside shooter comment.

He has a high % because he makes lots of putbacks, but because he crashes the offensive boards so often (including times that he shouldn't), he leaves his man wide open in transition way too often.

HG- just out of curiousity of the players who signed an offersheet for more than the MLE, what percentage do you think were signed without a major signing bonus?

I really don't know or care. The point I was making is that you assumed that Philly was going to offer Smith the max despite them not having the caproom at the time. The point I am making(and made)is that it's hilarious to assume a team is going to offer some one a signing bonus(in addition to a max contract)when they didn't have the cap room to do it at the time...which is not surprising because you are extremely pessimistic when it comes to the Hawks.

HG- you don't know or care because it is exceptionally common for those signing bonuses to get offered to RFA's and admitting that would make you look even more ridiculous. And yeah- I didn't think there was any chance that Philly was going to make a playoff run where they would keep Andre Miller. Somehow I don't think I was the only one.

Alot of people figured Philly would try to clear cap space to be offer a max contract...however YOU were the only one who actually assumed they would clear cap space,target Josh Smith specifically among all free agents,offer him the max,AND offer him this magical signing bonus in which the Hawks wouldn't be able to match. Do you not see how lame that is? You didn't even wait until they cleared enough cap space to assume the worst case scenario.
