Boston Globe is reporting that there will be no suspensions. After what transpired last year with Phoenix I have to question that decision. But I'll wait to hear from Stern before I pass judgement.

This is a business decision by Stern.

All the commercials done by Gatorade, ESPN, the league....KG would be too much of a loss...even if he did push a referee!!

The KG and the Perkins/Marvin thing are separate situations....but Marvin/Perkins not getting suspended is a joke considering how Stern kept saying talking about enforcing the rules last year.

I also think KG should atleast get fined for that. You can't just pretend like nothing happened when he clearly shoved the ref out the way.

If that's the case, I can live with it. The hypocrisy of it will annoy Suns fans to no end.

Regardless, the Hawks need to be prepared for a quick whistle and a tightly officiated game five. I wouldn't be surprised if the word from the top is make an example out of someone if they mess up.

Not really suprised KG didn't get suspended but I'm a little shocked that Marvin or Perkins weren't.

I'm not surprised at all. Honestly, it'd feel even better beating Boston with KG on the court.

I really thought Perkins and Marvin would be suspended. Garnett could've been as well. Not sure what argument the league is using to justify its decision but that's hard to understand. BTW Josh, let me just thank you guys for last sat. I was kinda lost and you got me back on the right track.. thanks dude !

I dont see how this compares to Phoenix last year.

I thought the players who came off the bench ( incident happened by the sideline, not in the center of the court like this fight ) were the ones who got suspended last year. Not the players on the court.

If thats not correct, I apologize, but thats how I remember it.

I think KG not gettign suspended was the bigger issue. If Stern wants to follow the letter of the law then he has to apply his rules like that in all cases when they call for automatic suspensions. The rulebook states that making contact with an official on purpose warrants a suspension, there is no question that KG did that.

It would have been kind of cheap if he was suspended for that because there was nothing malicous in it. But then again so were the Amare/Diaw suspensions. If anything I feel bad for the Suns.

i dont know why where the fight occurred matters but to answer your question.

marvin williams and kendrick perkins came off the bench and stepped onto the court.

The rule is "leaving the bench," not "stepping onto the court." The player's seats are close enough to the line that a slight step forward to better see what is happening (which is what it looked to me like Perkins did) would get them "onto the court." But wouldn't really be leaving the bench.

With Diaw and Amare, both players were at or past the coach's line -- significantly farther than a step or two.

As for KG, the only logical explanation I can think is that since he never directly looked to see who was grabbing him, he could argue the point that he thought it was a teammate (though, admittedly, a significantly shorter and smaller teammate) or one of the Hawks, and not the ref. (A weak point, perhaps, but a point nonetheless).

To be 100% honest, I wouldn't have minded all 4 of them -- the above 3 plus Zaza -- off a game. In the Hawks case, our depth isn't nearly as bad as people (and Woodson) keep making it out to be. And Horford and Smith would have had a field day with both Perkins and KG gone. But I'm satisfied with the lack of suspensions, if nothing else for the fact that I'm sick enough of Suns fans b****ing about last season, and the Celtics fans have been worse without such an "egregious affront."
