Is Law still being groomed to be the pg of the future? I've been listening to 790 and people were calling in giving trade ideals and the host were giving their opinions but I never really heard anyone speak on the future of Acie. What do you guys think of Law's future with the Hawks?

He hasn't shown any ability to be a starting PG. He still has work to do to become a quality backup. It now has to be considered a bonus if he does eventually turn into a starter- it simply cannot be counted on.

Has he ever really been given a chance though? I mean during the season, I thought he played decent when giving the minutes. It seemed like every time he got into a groove, he ended up getting hurt. I think he needs more minutes to show what he can really do. He should get alot of minutes during summer league and hopefully he can play good and let it carry over into next season.

I like 790 a lot it's entertaining. But it's sports talk radio, so they don't really have to know about sports, and most of them know next to nothing about the Hawks.

Unfortunately his lack of a chance makes it impossible to say whether he has it in him to be the pg of the future. Saying he can, or can't is pure speculation. Saying the you shouldn't bank on it is probably wise.

He did look better towards the end of the year when given decent minutes. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough of a sample size to judge. The fact that he played 3 minutes in the season ending loss to Miami is pathetic on Woody's part.

Acie should be very good next year coming off the bench. He has shown in the playoffs and the regular season that he can get to the basket any time that he wants but he does need to work on his jumpshot in the off season..

Keep in mind Law spent the majority of the year trying to learn the NBA point guard position from career journeymen and backups in AJ, Lue and Speedy. No one stands to benefit more from having Bibby around than Acie Law as he finally has a legitimate NBA point guard in the fold. I think it is far too early to give up on Acie. I could see him taking over for Bibby once Bibby's contract is up after next season, I really liked him in spurts this season and I think more consistency will come with more NBA games. Look at how long it took Billups (similar to Law in my mind) to develop into a solid NBA player. I don't think its a good idea give up Law for a quick fix or an aging veteran like the Mav's did with Devin Harris...

when i hear people talk about how good MCJ looked and then say Acie didnt show anything, i seriously wonder if they watched Memphis play.

The difference betwee MCJ and Acie Law this season was minutes. Acie looked better on defense, MCJ looked good on offense at times, and looked lost at times.

Unlike most of you, I haven't seen ANYTHING that say Acie Law isn't a starting caliber NBA pointguard. Literally NOTHING. Its downright silly for some of the crap I have seen written this year including "At this point he will be lucky to be in the NBA in a few years". that point being January.

Acie need to add some arsenals to his game, like a floater or something... he can get by his man to the rim, but can't seem finish it earlier in the season. I like what I see out of Acie, mainly because I like defensive player, but he also has some sick ball handling skills. Bottom line is he's just another victim of Woody's bench system or lack thereof.

In game 2 Acie got 21 minutes and scored 12 pts without missing a shot. Then in the next four games he got 4,4,8 and 5 minutes.

And people think Woody doesn't have anything to do with Acie's struggles.

First, we need to talk to the specialty coach that Houston employed to help Rafer Alston with finishing at the basket. I think that's the biggest problem with Acie's game right now. He can't get by a defender, but it often still didn't mean a good result.

Regardless, he's a player I expect to develop a lot this summer, but I wouldn't want to turn the reigns over to him next year. If he shows he can handle it as the year goes on then give him more minutes. Players who are ready to play PG at a playoff level as rookies are very rare.

Acie has shown the ability to penetrate against almost every defense he's faced. He protects the ball well. He's shown the ability to defend quick PGs. He's shown the ability to defend big PGs. He's strong and quick and - in college - he's shown a good shot.

Problem is, he can't finish at the basket -- YET --- and his jumper is poor. The game's too fast for him right now (on offense, that is) and he has zero confidence.

he doesn't watch the games. He just looks at stats.

He is the poor man's sebastian Telfair. There isn't anything he does better and is actually older.

sometimes you have to give it time. there is only a rare few that come in as winners there rookie year. look at Nash's first 3 years in the league. not very exciting. I so him on the floor in the playoff in gm 6 playing well in limited minutes. The fact he was on the floor shows me they believe he can play. I think he can play too. give him another year or two.

Acie finished at the rim fine before the injury. he had some tough time finishing after his ankle injury which is to be expected and then bounced back and finished just fine at the rim. Him blowing so many layups was a abberation.

His jumper was a struggle though, but he started to find his stroke as the season went on.

You are a clueless troll.

Sebastian telfair gets to the rim better, is the better scorer, he has more assists, and turns the ball over less. He is actually even the better rebounder and blocks more shots. And once again Telfair is younger than Acie. Acie was one of the worst PG's in the league this season by whatever measure you would like to use. Call me a troll all you like- that just shows how far into denial you actually are.
