Marvin suspended for game 1 of next season

Word has come down that Marvin is suspended to start next season. This doesn't come as a surprise to me nor to do I think it is unfair. He didn't want to hurt Rondo, but the contact he made could very have done so.
I still find it interesting that in theory he would have been penalized less for shoving an official.

Not a surprise there. That's the right decision from the NBA.

It is unfair if Kidd wasn't suspended.

Is Kidd being disciplined? His was more harsh than Marvin's and I didn't like it when Marvin did it.
If Marvin was such the better athlete when he was drafted, why would he come to that kind of decision to hammer him instead of making an athletic play.
We have all been fooled by BK's obsession with Marvin's length.

Both were obviously "dirty" plays...but singling out Marvin's as the one which deserves a suspension is a joke. Marvin made the foul and atleast made an attempt to try to hold him up(not defending the flagrant). Kidd basically grabbed Pargo by the neck and slung him to the ground face first.

Just one more day for him to get the 3 ball down!

If Jason Kidd isn't suspended for his foul then Marvin shouldn't be either.

Marvin didn't mean it to be a dirty play. It was a mistake and the flagrant foul was called. I don't see why he should be suspended for it.

Well few players intend to hurt someone, but you can't truly calculate intent. For that type of play the standard is a 1 game suspension. I have no problem with the penalty, but expect the league to be a little more uniform in its justice.

It doesn't matter if he meant to do it. A flagrant 1 tyically warrants a one game suspension just like it did with Horford.

I agree Marvin should be suspended...it was a dirty play. I don't think he meant to hurt him but he made no play on the ball.
The problem is that there is no consistency whatsoever. If Marvin is suspended than Kidd should be as well. You can't pick and choose when you want to suspend someone and the league does it all the time even when the rules are "automatic".

Gotta love the NBA. They aren't subtle at all, are they?

Flagrant 1 is the normal two shot and possession...flagrant 2 is the one game suspension and ejection.

Haha. This is why this past season was probably the last season of me following the NBA. I have to draw a line. I'm done with the double standards of this league.. It doesn't deserve my money, or my time.
I'm not even a Hawks fan, and after what has happened, blah. I'm done.
It doesn't even matter, obviously, to the Hawks. Whether he's with the team, or not. It's only the first game of the season. But after watching what that whiny bitch Kidd pulled... it just proves that the NBA doesn't think that it needs to stick to any 'standard' of discipline of players, refs, or anyone else.
Its just a league headed by a comish that has one thing in mind. Ratings, and the dollar bill. sure, it's not as bad as the WWE, but its driving down that road. Just watch any home playoff game, or Spurs game, or Lakers game. When people who are watching the games at bars passively... not even fans of basketball... notice that the refs are jobbing certain teams.. then you know there is a problem.
Atlanta has a great young core of smart likable players..
I was a fan of a team like that a few years ago..
and that team got jobbed by a glitchy ownership group and **** officiating. I pray the same **** doesn't happen to ATL.. Although I see it coming.. Go JJ.. GO Childress Go Smith..
And please.. Just resign and don't job your team. You're gonna be great soon...

Much like I said with the Horford suspension, there is no "automatic" suspension with a flagrant two. A suspension suggest there was malicious intent and always has. It is ridiculous that Brendan Haywood shoves Lebron out of the air with two hands and no play on the ball, non suspension. Kidd grabs Pargo by the neck and slings him down...no suspension.
Darius Songalia's arm gets caught with Lebrons and accidentally hits him, suspension. Marvin makes a play on the ball (and if you look at the play, he blocked the shot) and Rondos legs go, he still tries to catch him, but screw that...suspension.
There is no rhyme or reason to the suspensions.
All I know is this, next time a guy gets on a break, just throw a ref at him. Apparently that is okay now.

^^^ I think a big reason for that was because the next game for the Hawks was in the regular season, while Kidd and Haywood had playoff games and they didn't want to suspend them for the playoffs. I agree that it is absurd and ridiculous but maybe that was the rationale behind the obvious inconsistencies?
Personally I would have suspended Marvin, you have to have more control than that or someone could get seriously hurt. But I also would have suspended Kidd and Haywood,

Yeah, I agree that it was a dumb play and lack of control and all, but honestly, that play happened all the time, only this time rondo made it to the air first and his legs went out. It looked alot worse than it was. Flagrant 2 was the right call, but I don't believe in suspending guys for making a obviously play on the ball. This is a sport of people running at high speeds trying to make plays. Stuff happenes.
There was nothing at all basketball about Haywood or Kidd's plays. And they suspended Songalia so I can't even cosign on the "still in the playoffs" stuff.
