Philly Wants Josh Smith

No secret, but I wonder how big of a problem Philly will become, because I just hope we can find away to not give Josh a max contract.

The 76ers have roughly $11 million in cap space this summer and general manager Ed Stefanski reportedly has Elton Brand and Josh Smith on his radar, according to The News Journal.

Stefanski is also rumored to be interested in Antawn Jamison, but he appears to be the most likely to remain with his current team (Washington).

"The perfect situation is to get a power forward," Stefanski said. "But I'm not going to be distraught if we don't get one, because we'll add some pieces to do it in a different way."

Remember that is just the first year. There will be raises. I would guess that they could offer a deal of $13-14 million per year.

I don't see him as a good fit there though. They need perimeter shooting more than anything and Smith can't shoot.

don't be surprised if they try to trade for Redd.

Oh yeah...forgot.

Still, with raises, could they even backload that enough to make it a max deal? You can only backend 10% right? I have no idea how the NBA salary structrure works anymore.

Plus most teams like to frontload now to try and force a team to get rid of a guy.

But I agree, they aren't going to push too hard for him with Thaddus Young making his appearance near the end of the year, that is probably their PF for the future. They need a shooter.

You can't really backload a deal. You can't give raises bigger than what was collectively bargained.

But they can offer more than what many think Smith is worth. They could make us sweat.

Young is a 3. Some Bucks fans seem interested in trading Redd for him so they can start over and have a lot of capspace.

Yeah, that is a concern but Stefanski was brought in to be the anti-Billy King. I don't see him as the type to overcommit.

Thinking Josh Smith playing with Andre Iguodala would be awesome. It may be difficult for Atlanta to match an offer sheet.

A. you don't know Smith's game

B. Atlanta is under the cap before they resign Smith or Childress. No problems.

That's not a bad trade idea. Then we can trade Bibby (nice player and huge expiring) for Camby.

L.Williams / Acie / Speedy

JJ / Mario

Marvin / Chil / Richardson

Horford / Andersen / Jones

Daly / Camby / Zaza

I don't like that trade at all. Your willing to pay Dalembert 11 million per year but not the young Josh Smith? Given Dalembert is a big, but even still, he's far from being the exciting game changer that Josh is, and a trade like that would really hurt the Atlanta fans.

There is a group of Hawks' fans that seems to be on the "anyone but Smith" train.

If they trade Smith for Dalembert and Lou......then we are officially the dumbest franchise in the league. Smith is a young stud with unlimited potential. Dalembert is a solid Big. He won't ever be more than that.

This "story" didn't even merit a thread on the Philly board, but they have a thread about Billy King possibly coming to Atlanta. I think that is instructive.

The trade is mostly for Lou Williams, who I believe is the 2nd coming of Monta Ellis. Bibby and Acie ain't gonna get it done. Dalembert is mostly a throw in but allows Horford to move to his natural position PF where he will truly realize his potential and we don't lose too much shotblocking.

Somebody has a man crush on Lou Williams lol

Lou Williams isn't as quick as Monta Ellis and can't get his jump shot off like Monta because Monta has a monster vertical and gets up high on his jumper.

Lou can score and turn the ball over alot. that is what he is good at. I don't think he will be as good a overall player as Acie. Acie is already better than him defensively and offensively, while I think that Lou could eventually be around 18 points per game, I don't think its a reach to see Acie at around 14-16 with consistant PT.

Oh...and you are suggesting trading Josh Smith for Lou Williams....

Those are the reason I think this is a dumb trade....mostly for the Josh Smith/Lou Williams part.

Same age so it wouldn't really be the "second coming".

Risking a lot of potential for less potential but you are entitled to your opinion.

Why not just sign Monta Ellis in a sign and trade if thats what you want? Why would you want to give up Josh Smith for a less talented version if you could, in theory, have the real thing?
