First off, I want to say it's late at night and I was bored. After hearing 'rumors' that D'Antoni would try to trade Marbury's expiring for Barbosa and Diaw, I started thinking we could do better than that.

The trade is complicated because both Barbosa and Diaw are BYC. I know it's crazy, but I could actually see this benefiting both teams:

Hawks outgoing: Bibby, Claxton/Childress (S/T), Marvin, and Zaza
Why for Hawks: This move will cost a lot of money, so it all depends on ownership's commitment to winning. If they manage to make this deal and resign Josh Smith, it's a homerun offseason with the marquee additions of Phoenix.

Phoenix outgoing: Barbosa, Diaw, and Shaquille O'Neal
Why for Suns: Get big expiring in Bibby, lose mammoth contract of the failed Shaq experiment. Trade will still be 'retooling' as they're getting a young player in Marvin and Zaza. The deal actually makes more sense for Phoenix if we can do a S/T with Childress instead of Claxton. That would be a solid move for Phoenix both financially and on the court (assuming they're ready to get rid of Shaq). He'd need to sign for $6-7M/yr.

Core Hawks players: Acie, Barbosa, JJ, Smith, Horford, Shaq, Diaw
Core Suns players: Nash, Marvin, Childress, Amare, Bell, Bibby

Another simply variation could be Barbosa and Shaq for Bibby, Marvin, Zaza. I know everyone is going to hate on Shaq but he is a veteran big and if we can get Barbosa out of the deal we come out vastly improved. Everything assumes of course that we resign Smith.

Too big of a trade for a team with a new GM, and finally a team direction. And you think The Daddy is going to come to the young, mostly unproven ATL?

That's a very strange trade. I can't think of how either team would benefit. I think it would make the Hawks better short term but we would be taking on Shaq and Diaw's awful contracts. I'm not sure how you came up with this. I would not even consider trading Speedy for Diaw(let alone Chils) or Bibby for Shaq to be honest. The Marvin/Zaza for Barbosa thing would be OK(not sure how he would fit in here though)but that certainly isn't good enough to take on Shaq and Diaw IMO.

Hopefully we keep it simple and trade Bibby for Nene and Chucky Atkins.

just FYI- I believe by the offseason they would no longer be BYC and the trade would be much easier.

You are rolling the dice, like Steve Kerr did, on your future in this business.
I think it will be time for Shaq to hang it up in Phoenix by this time next year. He needs 2 or 3 star players to play with him to be a paper contender for the title.
As we have seen lately, you have to go through San Antonio, and only New Orleans lately has been standing toe-2-toe.

Interesing topic for a trade, but Phoenix has yet to have that model in place long enough to determine if it will work for them in the future.

I would have liked to offer Bibby/Marvin for Barbosa/Diaw. I think that would help our team a lot. I think that would make us a much stronger team in the east, especially with Barbosa. However, with BYC (not sure how it all works), I had to include Shaq. I think he's good for 40 games next year, maybe 20-30 the year after...but he's still a center.

Having a team with Acie, Barbosa, JJ, Smith, Horford, Diaw, and even Shaq to me is a eastern conference contender if Smith and Horford continue to develop.

Marvin had one good game and Bibby had 1-2 good quarters in the playoffs, if we ended up with Barbosa/Diaw, I wouldn't be disappointed.

Of course, we'd also need an appropriate coach for that lineup.

Suns management is highly overrated. They were on the verge of a dynasty that fell into their laps in many ways (JJ for Rodney Rogers, both Amare and Marion turned into studs and were late lottery picks) and they operated on the cheap when they could have multiple championships now (sold Deng, Thomas, and Rondo, signed Banks). So I have no idea how they're going to respond with their latest playoff run.

Don't blame Phoenix's management. Blame their cheap ass owner.

Are there any posters who believe that Woody could do the job? I see time after time if we get the right coach.

How come the ASG doesn't see it? Geesh...

Its becoming apparent to me that others are afraid that we would somehow hire a worse coach than Woody and that would set us back.

I disagree though, seeing as he is horrible and has had 4 years to get better. I am not oaky with going along with a horrile coach instead of taking a chance on a new coahc.

After watching the last 2 games in Cleveland. I am hoping that the owners will see that Doc Rivers should get as much blame as Woodson received praise for our first round series.
