Pau Gasol

Watching him with the Lakers reminds me what a great big man he is, shoots, boards, and passes very well.
I will forever wonder if the Lue/AJ/Lo expirings and Marvin would have gotten that deal done since all the Grizzlies got for him is Kwame's expiring and Javaris (when they already had 2 PGs!). I know Bibby is great (although played below expectations in the playoffs) but Pau was a 27 yr old all around big man...just can't help but wonder if we could have gotten him
I was wondering if anyone else has these regrets (I know we all see how sick CP is, but this one is less direct)...

I thought this was going to be about trading him for SAR.

Naw, I think most people at the time didn't know what Pau could do and SAR trade was supposed to be a homerun.
It's just weird that Pau got traded for garbage and we had garbage to offer.

This thread is confusing. Why would you regret not getting Gasol when every other team in the league besides the Lakers missed out on him? They valued saving money over talent which is why they traded him in the first place. They wouldn't have taken Marvin back because he only has one year left on his rookie contract and he also plays the same position as Gay.

Would it have gotten Gasol? Doubtful. Yes they already had two PG's, but they also had Gay and Miller who can both play the 3.
People seem to forget there the Lakers also gave up the rights to little Gasol, and two first round picks.
So a deal of just straight expirings + Marvin, I don't see thta would even be considered. If we offered picks along with Marvin then we would probably have a chance.

The ironic thing about Pau is that he would have been a Hawk all along if Billy Knight hadn't fleeced Babcock in that trade for Shareef. No matter which way you turn, Billy Knight has f---ed this franchise over. Curses!

I posted at the time that Chris Wallace chose to send him to LA to thwart his former bosses in Boston who fired him. It seems sure that Memphis had better offers from several teams on the table and wanted as close to all expirings as they could get.

that means that the Hawks would have tried to make the playoffs with a rookie point guard, and Salim.

Yeah and then we would have made the playoffs because Law and Salim are actually all stars, they were just never given a chance.
