ESPN. com's Chris Broussard's interesting blog about the Hawks.
Looks like Broussard has jumped on the bandwagon too.
Check out the blog:

And yes, I do agree with his observation!
But our team's situation is complicated, yet intriguing one.
We'll see!

I agree with his sentiment.
Johnson would institute a definitive offensive system, a definitive defensive system and a definitive style and identity.
The problem is that Avery can make $4M a year for the next 3 years by staying on the beach. I'm not sure the ASG would outbid that amount.

I like the idea of having Avery here. There's no doubt he's got credibility to run this team. I totally agree with the ESPN's guy statement about J. Smith. He'd respect, listen, and learn from Avery much more than he does from Woodson. I think the key here is our next GM and the money issue. Hopefully things will work out just fine, he makes a lot of sense for this team.

Why not? Lots of positives.

I like Avery a lot. But his style just wouldn't fit our team. We saw his refusal to run in Dallas, and we are a team that will not win if we don't get out on the break.

Well the way I see it is this: the downside is "imperfect fit" and the upside is "does everything better than Woody even if he does it too similarly".
People seem to forget what a disaster Woody has been in terms of cultivating relationships with his players.
Beyond that - outside of Kidd the Mavs don't have a running roster. The offense is most effective operating around Dirk in the half-court and all the mistmatches he creates by warping the D. Why destroy a proven system to accomadate an inferior player?

I would be fine with Avery or Thibodeau. Avery's teams are always in the top 10 in defense and offense every year(which could have something to do with learning from Nelson and Popovich)and Dallas got MUCH better as soon as he took over as coach during the middle of 2005(and going to the finals next year while beating the Spurs w/o homecourt along the way.)
I don't think we could get Avery though. Like evildallas said...he would likely be taking a paycut if he decided to come to the Hawks.

I would love to get Avery, hopefully the Spirit actually interviews him.
