seattle has 6 picks in the draft this year. If there is any way we can package Marvin in a deal, this is the year and the team to do it with. Marvin would feel more comfortable playing in the unknown great northwest. We'd be able to grab ourselves a draft pick or two in the process. I say its a win-win situation. Match Marvin up with Durant and J.Green and you got a future in Seattle.

Sonics are leaving "unknown great northwest" to go to Oklahoma City. Marvin won't sell tickets in OKC. And why would Seattle want 3 SFs to develop? And why would the Hawks want to get any younger with another rookie project (which is what most of this draft features... projects)?

I doubt Seattle is interested when they can fill a hole with the pick.

Trading Marvin at this point would be stupid. Also Seattle has no need for Marvin because they have Durant who will play SF or SG and Jeff Green who is a SF/PF.

I don't think Marvin gets us the #4 pick by himself and an assortment of lower picks doesn't seem to be great value for him although wisely used could provide much needed depth.

The thought would be to draft either Jerryd Bayless, Brook Lopez, or OJ Mayo at the #4 pick. 2 of those 3 would be available (most people have Minnesota drafting Lopez). At 32, you can take a flier on Joey Dorsey, Bill Walker, Devon Hardin, or maybe someone who falls.

Personally, I would do deal but that has a lot to do with my long term doubts about Marvin's intensity and drive.

Trading Marvin for the #4 pick would create a whole at the SF position unless we plan on moving Joe there. If a trade like this happened we should draft OJ Mayo because he has the potential to be a Kobe type player.

I think the idea of trading for players even younger and rawer than Marvin is flawed.

No hole. Childress can be signed and started or Joe can go to SF if we acquire a SG.

Furthermore, this wouldn't be my only move. I want to use Bibby's expiring deal to get another talented vet (like the oft mentioned Michael Redd possibility or maybe Mike Miller) maybe along with Childress in a sign and trade if necessary (for Redd/Mason). As you see below still no hole.

I'd ship Marvin out for the 4 in a heartbeat because you are guaranteed to get either Mayo or Bayless. I think the draft gets alot weaker after the 4th pick though.

Seattle needs another Sf why?
There is no way seattle trades the 4 for Marvin. Don't care that they don't need another SF, but Marvin isn't worth the 4.
I wouldn't trade Marvin for their other picks the others ones aren't that great. #24 in the first, 1 high 2nd, 1 mid 2nd, and 2 low 2nds.

Huh?

We need more perimeter scoring.
We need someone who can create his own shot off the dribble.
We need someone to take defensive pressure away from JJ.

Redd can do all of that. He is one of the best scorers in the league.

The type of "logic" you are using is the same line of thinking that caused BK to take Shelden instead of Roy.

The Bucks would take Bibby/Marvin because Marvin fills their weak spot at the 3 while Bibby is a big expriring deal to get them out from under Redds contract so they can pursue free agents.

The problem with Redd is the cost.

Just a side note, isn't Marvin from Seattle? Maybe they'd be a little more interested in him because of that. Of course who knows if they'll even be in Seattle next year...

The cost next season would be no different than keeping Marvin and Bibby.

The next year Marvin would have to be resigned so lets assume he makes 8 million/yr. Then Bibby would have to be resigned or someone else brought in which would cost.

So when you look at it that way the cost isn't that big of a deal. The bottom line is that scorers get paid. Look at Ray Allen and Rashard. I would take Redd over both of them.

I would rather overpay for someone who can actually play than overpay some backup hoping he can become a starter.

Look at the top 2 or 3 players of the top teams and the Hawks don't measure up. But put Redd on this team and Redd/JJ/Smith looks pretty good.

I like Redd, but if we go into the season with him and Bibby in the backcourt we will be atrocious defensively. If Bibby is in the deal I just don't feel comfortable with Acie at the point, but that's another argument.

The point is that you would have to move Bibby to get Redd though. And you might not feel confortable with Acie running the offense, but you have to admit, you would be alot more confortable with him defending opposing point guards.

I personally feel comfortable with him running this offense. he just needs to add the "Find joe in rhythm on the break for 3's" into his game. because the "Bring the ball up and give it to Joe" part (which is pretty much what the point guard spot does on this teams offense) he has down already.

What does Redd do other than score???

Redd does duplicate a lot of what JJ already does, but it would be a great addition to the team. I would think Bibby/Marvin could get it done. Bibby is attractive only because he's a large expiring contract. Marvin is a 'young with potential'...this will especially be more relevant if Milwaukee drafts a SG-type with their pick, they'd probably be ready to clear the money from Redd and build around Yi, their pick, and Bogut.

Depending on the offer, I prefer us to wait on Marvin to see if he adds a 3 ball, because that will only increase his trade value. The only problem I see is that he's going to be due an extension, so I hope the 3 ball becomes a reality next season, because it will only make him become a more valuable RFA (Thinking possible SNT).
