Its probably fair based on value but its pretty awful situationally. The Hawks are a team on the rise, that is a rebuilding move. Bringing in Beasley might also neccesitate moving Smith because its uncertain as to whether Smith or Beasley can play SF.

I wouldn't trade JJ for anything less than a top 10 player in the NBA.

I'd trade him if we could get Rose.

Yes...but I can see why people wouldn't. Joe is very important to the Hawks...best shooter, ball handler, perimeter defender, etc. Beasley and/or Rose would have to be a step above a tier 2 star(which I consider Joe to be)for the trade to look good. I'm willing to do that if it means the Hawks could potentially be closer to a championship.

If we ever get to the championship series, we'll need someone exactly like JJ.

I can understand why some people would, but I wouldn't at this time. We are weak on potential superstars and a Beasley/Horford frontline would be studly.

Here are the problems, since Miami isn't under the cap a lot of filler has to come back and I assume it would be Mark Blount and Marcus Banks. That filler will prevent us from making a move in free agency to fill the void left by Joe Johnson, not that anyone is actually available. In the short term, we would have a highly unbalanced roster. In theory if we could move Bibby for a vet SG (like a Redd) and maybe do a sign and trade for a PG that would mesh with the new down low strength of the team. In theory, Marvin would have value as a SF. Both Childress and Josh Smith would probably be S&T targets in this scenario because their skill sets don't mesh with the inside-out low post offense that should be adopted. You need to surround Beasley and Al with snipers to make the opponents pay one way or the other. You could make it work, but it requires a series of about 4 major deals to build the new roster and hope it gels and even then it would probably take a couple years to get back to where we are now on the way to greater heights.

We don't match up well with either Miami as a trading partner for Joe. Miami has DWade at the 2 which is Joe's best position. In theory they could share the PG duties or Joe could move to SF, but it doesn't seem optimum. Chicago would be a better match, but I don't see them giving up the #1 and filler (Larry Hughes) for Joe.
