i was thinking of a trade that looks like this

to detroit for

That trade sucks for both teams. a Marvin/Horford front line?

What exactly does the trade do to help the Hawks? Yes we get a solid spect in Stuckey and a pick and get rid of speedy, but the holes that are left to fill are huge. Marvin isn't a PF, so we would basically have a team of:
Bibby/Law/Stuckey
Rip/Chill
Prince/Marvin
Horford
Zaza

That team is very bad.

Neither team would do that.

I thought someone would post a Detroit-based trade, but I expected better than that.

I give you a simple one:

Tayshaun Prince
Cheick Samb
for
Marvin Williams
Zaza Pachulia

We get a vet to satisfy Joe, who can stroke the 3 and play lock down perimeter D. They get a young potential star (cough) who can score and will fill less pressure with a more veteran lineup around him. Pachulia gives them an expiring big and was really for salary balance. Samb is just intriguing filler. I'd rather have their #29 pick, but I don't feel our package is enough to be demanding.

Not overwhelming, but I think it improves our team without gutting it. Whether or not it is a wise trade in the long term depends on how much you think Marvin will continue to evolve and how much his price tag will be. I still have my doubts that he ever reaches his potential here and think that Prince would help get more out of Joe's prime. I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that the move comes with some risk.

dallas- Detroit doesn't come anywhere close to doing that.

I remember when there was a deal centered around Marvin/Prince here earlier in the year and everyone was against it. We would have to give up more than Marvin/expirings for Tayshaun. Even if they do blow that thing up you'd think he'd be the guy they keep because he is still fairly young.

This would be awful for the hawks in so many ways. We kill out pg of the future, we lose JJ who is much better than rip. We loose smoove who is much better than tayshawn. Finally, we get pick 29. Who wants pick 29. A guaranteed contract for a borderline NBA player. Where do we get better in this deal?

Another one of those "what the hell is wrong with you people" moment around here for me.

I personally just didn't think that Detroit would do it, but people here were thinking we shouldn't do it.

If somehow they got stupid enough to give up Prince for marvin you LEAP on that deal.

Tayshawn is everything I hope Marvin becomes with better handles.

I remember that earlier trade thought and I was one of those for it then. I think the 3 things that Tayshaun would add to make the team quite a bit better. Those 3 things are much better perimeter D (which takes a lot of pressure off of Joe), 3 Pt range (which spreads the floor more), and veteran experience (which means that he has knowledge of competiting at a higher level to share). Like I said, there is risk involved on both sides. I really think that Detroit prefers to trade Sheed and either Rip Hamilton or Chauncey Billups.
