Wow...shocking development from AJC's Sekou Smith
http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared ... _with.html
Also, in speaking with a VERY reliable source, I asked what he thought about Rick Sund....his response?
"He's a lot like Pete Babcock."
Also, Charlotte has popped in the fray as well...possibly looking for a top assistant to Larry Brown.
Stay Tuned.

I can't see Detroit hiring Woody but it would be great if they did.

You guys, this is horrible. We would be losing a certified basketball genius.
I have been sitting nervously hoping the team would resign him as soon as possible before some other team notices what a great coach he is. Put him on a team of vets and you will see a championship in a year or two. Hopefully the Pistons won't scoop him up, because I would much rather have him here helping to developing this team.....
*that post is just in case Joe D pops in*

Let's just swap Woody for Saunders and everybody is satisfied.

I went ahead and posted this on the Pistons board. Should be interesting on what kind of response this gets.

No way Dumars like WOody that much. He will stay in house.
Has he seen these guys play together? Is there something we as an entire city are missing? The ASG actually has a basketball expert on their staff?
It'll never happen, and I will be glad to buy season tickets to see it happen. We can do much better than what we have on the sidelines right now.
I'll give him to Charlotte should they want him, but it sounds like a UNC reunion going on there. Woody would be an outsider.
This is the funniest thing I have ready here in quite a while.

Firing Flip and hiring Woody=Sac firing Rick Adleman and hiring Eric Mussleman. This would be an idiotic move for Detroit. It would be good for Woody and the Hawks though.

That is the first thing I thought of. Is there something we are missing and they(rest of the NBA) are seeing? I know we will here the typical "Oh it is the Hawks they don't know what they are doing" speeches in order to justify this. Sort of like with Diaw. Everyone was saying "it is the Hawks blah blah blah" speeches. Now everyone knows the Diaw we had to put up with while he was here.
Only way Woodson would do well is because he will be coaching a Vet team. That Vet team would hide/minimized his mistakes. The coach we saw this past season was the real Woodson. A coach that couldn't get this Hawks team to a .500 record in a sorry East.

Woodson is tailor made for the pistons......he doesn't coach effort or defense.....the Pistons are a notorious "we'll play when we're ready just don't bug us until then" team.......and they pretty much come down to Billups left and Billups right at the end of games.....

I'm not sure how serious Joe really is about Coach Woodson. It does on the other hand provide Woodson with some leverage when it comes to the ASG. Stay strong ASG and don't fall for it!

I was shocked when I saw this, I'm a Detroit fan, I was just about 100% positive that it's going to be Michael Curry, I'm guessing they are going to talk to him, I don't think we'll higher him, we've committed to much to Curry.

Hiring Mike Woodson would supplant drafting Darko as Joe's biggest mistake running the Pistons.

I don't think Woodson would be the difference between going to the ECF or winning the championship though. I've always laughed when Detroit fans say "we wouldn't have won the title if we drafted Melo/Wade/Bosh". I actually look at it the other way...their title is probably a fluke(the super-star theory only has 1 exception)and they would have won multiple titles had they drafted any of the next 3 players picked after Darko. The Spurs were a title contender who needed another player to get over the hump and got lucky with Robinson's injury and were fortunate enough to get the 1st pick in a draft with a can't miss player. 2 of the biggest what ifs in NBA history....what if Len Bias didn't die and what if the Pistons(who win 50-60 games a year)added a franchise player instead of a 12th man with the 2nd pick in a loaded draft?

Good Point, Woodson wouldn't be the biggest mistake, just another rare misstep. I understand the Pistons Fans' pain when they could have had a superstar talent and instead went with a long term project at #2. At least Marvin actually plays for us, Darko got less than 600 minutes in 3 seasons in Detroit.

Hoops, I know you don't like me saying it, but the Wade, Bosh and Anthony DEFINATELY wouldn't have gotten to play in detroit.
We can argue how woodson would have used Brandon Roy, but Larry brown sitting a productive vet for a rookie? HELL no.
If anytihng he would have traded any of them in year two for Trenton Hassel or something. Wade would have been trying to get time behind Billups or Rip and since he didn't have a jumper Brown would have buried him. Bosh would have had the most chance of playing but when Rasheed got there, that would have been the last of his minutes(all 10 of them a game he would have gotten under brown) and Melo...HA.
This guy managed to not play Lebron, Carmelo, and Amare in the Olympic games so the Stephon Marbury could get PT. I am pretty sure that whoever the Pistons took that year wouldn't have been there long.
It still was a mistake by Joe becuase he thought Darko was the best talent. Just at the end of the day, I don't think it mattered. At all.
As for Woodson to Detroit, he wouldn't get them over the hump but they would still win in the mid 50 games.
The team is built just the way Woodson wants to coach and since he refuses to adjust to personel, I think he would do a good job there.

Good morning, Rip.
Anyways, I think LB definetely plays those guys. We know he doesn't like to play rookie but if they are on that level he would play them (i.e. Allen Iverson).
