OT - Celtics over Lakers

Post#1 » by saloonyk8 » Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:39 pm

I know the series isn't over yet, but I really thought the Lakers had to win one in Boston to have a good chance, now they've got to win 3 in a row, highly unlikely.

Some thoughts:

1.) I'm proud of the Hawks, we played the Celtics very well and forcing Game 7 was no joke. And JJ's 4th quarter 20 points was just sick...especially seeing how good the Celtics D can be.
2.) Cleveland would have beaten the Celtics if it wasn't for a phenomenal game 7 by Pierce as well.
3.) I think the Celtics have gotten A LOT better since we played them. Not to downplay the Hawks, but the Celtics really changed as a team as a result of the first two series.
4.) I like Kobe, but this MJ fascination should end right about now. It's not like he's on a team of scrubs (although Odom/Gasol have played more like role players than key cogs), there's some real talent there. I can't fathom MJ losing in the finals, especially not like this...but whatever Kobe is still sick.
5.) Although I hated Boston for the first series and subsequent rounds. I still find myself pulling for the Big 3 (hate the fans still). It's a pretty remarkable situation. Allen, Pierce, and KG are all definitely past their prime, but they're still capable of putting up 20+ any game. It's completely different than when Payton/Zo won championships due to Wade. Even when Malone/Payton were on the Lakers they weren't as capable players as this current Big 3. It's kind of nice to see them finally win. I think all 3 really paid their dues.
6.) I don't think the Celtics will be this good for more than 1-2 more seasons (at most). That's definitely good for the Hawks.
7.) I think the Lakers will be in the Finals again next year.

I've been pulling for the C's. Other than Pierce, I really like everyone on the team. Plus KG deserves a championship.

I like Rondo (being a UK fan) and Posey, so yeah have to go with the C's.
But if this was Bird/Magic, I would go with Magic every time.

I hate Boston. However, I am very proud of the Hawks as well.

But I do think KG is still in his prime, and Pierce is too. Ray Allen is going downhill, but he's still one of the best shooters in the NBA IMO. Perkins is still developing that soft touch, but he is a presence down low. Rondo is still developing too, but he'll be one of the best point guards in the East when he fully develops. He's outplayed most of the point guards he's faced so far.

When Rondo develops a jumper, watch out. He's going to be a fantastic point guard for a decade. Good thing we picked Shelden Williams instead.

It's nice to see a solid guy like Garnett about to get a ring. He finally stepped up in the clutch last night.

It's also nice to see one of the worst human beings in the world lose on the biggest stage. It will be interesting to see who Kobe throws under the bus for this collapse. He's going to run out of people to blame pretty soon.

Lakers lost what... only 3 in the Western Conference in their quest to the finals? And now they already lost 3 in the series against an Eastern opponent.

He's already blamed the refs for the fact that he would rather shoot contested fallaways from 17 feet than drive or pass.
