Would it be possible to offer Donnie Walsh/D'Antoni Marvin Williams and try to get their 6th pick and Randolph Morris?
I think Marvin might really be welcome in MSG and be able to run with this team and lock down a starting spot. We aren't talking about a defensive first approach here.
It gives the Hawks depth in the post with Morris, and we get to pick up a Eric Gordon or Brooke Lopez or a backup to Chills at the 3.

you are grossly overestimating what Marvin is worth. I don't think the Hawks could get a top 15 pick for him right now.

Probably not. The master plan in New York has been heavily rumored to get under the cap by the summer of 2010 and 2011 in hopes of luring young big stars to New York for their prime. They're willing to deal the pick, but they really want to move Randolph and/or Curry and maybe some other pieces like Jeffries. Crawford is uncertain because he might thrive in D'Antoni's system. This quest to get under the cap is why they will probably not move Marbury's huge expiring deal. This is also a reason guys who were recently off the market might be available if you take a big contract (like David Lee).

I don't even think Randolph Morris is still under contract either. I think he is an RFA.

Marvin coming off rookie deal doesn't do much for them. They would be very selective on long term deals which means they would be giving away the 6th pick for nothing. While signing him means more dollars to account for in cap terms.

Well, I would think we could sign Morris to an offer sheet and see if the Knicks match. He has a NBA body and just needs to get into a rotation to see what kind of numbers he can accumulate.
I think he would be a good young fit into this rotation and can be picked up for a reasonable short term price.
I don't think he fits the D'Antoni system.

I was just trying to find Marvin a new home in order to bump up Chills to the 3 and put our depth in 2 other areas: interior and SG for 10 min behind JJ.

the problem with RFA's is that if you sign them to a reasonable contract then the team just matches and can trade the player mid season. In order to get a team not to match you have to overpay.

That is one way to find out the worth of Morris for the Knicks. It sure wouldn't hurt the Hawks to make an offer come July 1. They need depth on the frontline in the worst way.
If we stay status quo, don't expect to see the playoffs. Indy, NJ and Chicago are standing pat with their roster, and the Hawks need to take aggressive steps to up the talent on this roster.

Since we know Zaza is not the answer in the rotation, we need to go out and target 2-3 guys early before they get offers elsewhere. a 3-4 year offer should get that done here. I wouldn't mind to see the other teams match our offer as well. It puts them in a bind for someone they really didn't count on to help for that season. D'Antoni's style tells me several Knicks should be expecting to surface elsewhere, and I wouldn't want to be the team to help them with the Curry/Marbury/Randolph/Jeffries/Crawford salary issues they are having.

The thing about Childress is I don't think he's strong enough or big enough to play the 3 full-time and his release is too slow and much too low to ever start at the 2. What he is, is a super sub who plays the 1, 2 and 3 well for limited amounts of time.

I still think he might grow into a PG, despite 82games not recording his time there this season very well. I only mention PG because that's the position where I think he could be a very good starter.

I agree with the first part but I don't see the second. Obviously the numbers say that he isn't really special as a passer but beyond that, he just doesn't have the mentality of a creator and it seems pretty obvious, he likes his role as a finisher.

Marvin isn't worth a pick that high anymore. Also Morris needs to be a S&T
