Why so down on Bibby?

I don't see why everyone is so eager to move Bibby. Sure, he didn't have a great playoffs this year but, hey, at least we were in the playoffs, and he was a part of how we got there. Everyone seemed to like the deal when we first acquired Bibby. Also, he put a lot of pressure on himself in the playoffs by calling out Boston's fans in an effort to take the heat off our younger players. I am very interested to see how he does in a full season with the guys we have now. I think this additional experience will be the main source of upgrade for our team as I see us pretty much standing pat this offseason. Even if he has lost a step (which I don't think he has he's only 30 look at what Nash and Chauncey have done at 30+), we only have him for 1 more year and his experience will help out Acie in his development.

I'm not down on him like most. I think most just know that he's not our future at PG so he's not that important a part of our team.
Regardless, he averaged over 14 and 6 for us while shooting 37% from three after the trade so he definitely helped. I'm ready to see him without the thumb and finger being tied up this season. Hopefully he gets some consistency in his shot.

you are only as good as your last game.... nah i'm just kidding
Bibby even at his best in SAC was a bad defender and his numbers where inflaited only because of the system the Kings ran.
Bibby is better than Lue i will give you that.... but when you hear Baron and Gordon, and Kirk are on the Market, well you just have to try to jump on it now.

1) lack of other options to improve the team and the only option for a large contract player in return.
2) He's in the last year of his contract which should result in a salary decrease, but that rarely occurs with a person staying on the same team.
3) Some other very nice options might be available at a lesser price for longer term.
I don't expect Bibby to be moved. I expect him to finish out the year and we turn the team over to Acie Law to run. I pray that Acie is ready for it because plan B is to overpay Bibby to stay and that's damning long term. We should be able to handle the transition if Al, Josh, and Marvin improve their games particularly Marvin shooting the 3 to stretch the floor. The area that I most worry about is the resigning of Childress. Logically it is being based on him being so valuable because he is the primary relieve at 3 positions. To be honest, If he is going to be pulling down $7M a season then I think I'd rather have a bruising young PF at 1M, a 3 pt specialist at 4M, and a lock down perimeter defender at 2M rather than tie up that much salary in Childress. Childress produces in his 30 mpg on the court, but the players with different skill sets I think make us a better team.

I think a lot of the hate for Bibby is because a lot of people thought he was much better than he actually was. As Harry said, even at his best Bibby had some flaws. Now that he is on the decline he is really nothing more than a streak shooter with okay passing skills and good leadership ability. He's a big name with a big contract, but he's just an above average PG to me. And I'll take that happily after the disaster at PG we've had over the past few years.

Because he's just not good no offense. He'd be a backup on many teams and is just an average point guard. He's a liability on offense and isn't the best play maker. He's also been shooting at worse percentages each year. He used to be deadly from three, now not so much.

I think he is a decent player but his defense is bad and his shot is inconsistent. The Hawks really can't have a coach who preaches rebounding and defense when you have weak defense at the two most important positions on the court(which is why he and/or Zaza has to go imo). He is also a big expiring which could go towards getting us another good player.

I think our offense statistics jumped from bottom 5 in the league to top 10 in the league after we traded for him. If that makes him a liability, then may frogs jump out of my ass.

I was hardly asking for Bibby when looking at PG trade back to beginning of 2008.
I am a little bit disappointed because I was hoping for more (not much more) but with we know that Bibby played with an injury. But the Bibby effect was here, giving more option to Joe.
I want to see how it turns with a full season, at least we should know in January, because if he can play better than what he did these past months, and want to stay for a lower salary, it could be good.

Bibby helped a ton. We wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs otherwise. Joe went back to his old self and started dominating after we got him.
That said, hopefully his inconsistent shot was due to all the tape on his hand, that's got to be tough to play with. After a full offseason, I'm hoping he doesn't have to wear it anymore and his shot becomes better.

Near the top of my existing roster development wish list is Bibby starts the year fully healthy.
Other items on the list:
Josh Smith continues to develop post moves.
Marvin Williams develops 3 point shot and confidence to take it.
Acie Law improves finishing at the hoop.
Al Horford adds some more bulk and strength.
Solomon Jones learns how to stay on the court.
Mario West develops his jump shot preferably 3 pointer.
Joe Johnson develops a mean streak
I haven't rank ordered them in importance yet.
