Hawks Find a Replacement for Chill...

Hawks get:
Renaldo Balkman
Jared Jefferies
Knicks get:
Speedy Claxton
Solomon Jones
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Balkman provides the Hawks with energy and defense at the 3 spot. He would give the team some much needed energy off the bench, a similar role that Chill provided. They also get Jefferies, who is a decent combo forward who can do the little things for a team.

Patrick,
I could agree with this one. You get 2 vets who have been successful. Perhaps the limelight of NYC is too much for Jeffries. He has a game very similar to Chills.
How much does Donnie Walsh value Balkman, and will they actually consider taking Speedy off our hands?
And, if you decided against this deal, you definitely aren't in good shape with Charles and Solomon on this roster.

And why would the Knicks do this trade again? They get nothing out of this deal. Stupid trade

The Knicks already have Gallinari,Richardson, and Chandler at SF. They get rid of too players who fit horribly into D'Antoni's system(both are horrible shooters)and they also get rid of Jeffries contract which last after 2010 unlike Speedy's.

Cap space. If they won't dump Randolph for cap space, they have to dump someone. Still though, I think you are right in thinking that they would want some sort of talent in return.

It's funny. I get the NY motivation, what I don't understand is ours. Jeffries is 7M against the cap the summer that Lebron can opt out. Without moving him they won't have enough cap room to make a max offer even if they renounce all free agents. That would be edge Brooklyn.
Here's what bad about it:
Jeffries 3 yr/19M slightly more than full MLE offer. 3.7 ppg 40% FG 16% 3PT 53 FT% 3.3 Reb PER of under 8
That's not a replacement for Chill that's a recipe for disaster. Balkman has better stats, but he doesn't shoot well either and doesn't have a good handle in half court. He's very athletic and could be a shutdown defender and his contract is nice as a mid-to-late 1st round rookie scale, but his shortcomings really offset those positives and as I already pointed out he's attached to a boat anchor in this offer. I know we would be giving up nothing talent wise in the proposed deal, but Speedy is serviceable if healthy and if he has another season end due to knee problems then Atlanta could petition for cap relief on involuntary retirement due to health. What we do give up is position-wise. In acquiring a defensive SF and a guy with a reputation as a defensive SF (I don't believe in Jeffries at either end anymore) we open a hole at 3rd PG and arguably at 3rd big.
We're better off riding the Speedy situation out and looking for replacements in house or in free agency than trying to recycle Knick trash.

the last thing you should be concerned with is cap space for lebron.
your team took the nba champions to 7 games last season. your time is now(bibby and joe aren't getting any younger), not 2010.
no offense to atlanta but i highly doubt lebron would even consider it for a second.
you should focus on this upcoming season.
your team just lost an important ROLE player in josh childress.
renaldo balkman and jared jeffries both replace him without the team losing a beat.
obviously that won't be enough to take your over the hump but you won't get anything else for speedy claxton he probably won'y player another game and is still owed 11 million dollars.

VERY smart comment. I think too many Hawks fan still have their mindset stuck in the rebuilding mode in which this organization has been for the last decade. We must stop to deal uniquely for potential and try the get some more wins. The East will be extremelly competitive next season, and if we want to get past the first round of the playoffs we must add some talent.
In this deal, we would receive way more talent than we would give. If Walsh agrees to such a move, we must accept Jeffries`s horrible contract and use him to replace Chill.

Reread my post, I was stating the New York motivation was clearing cap space for Lebron. Atlanta doesn't have a chance in hell at Lebron and isn't saving cap room for him. I don't see how you can read my comment and think I was talking about Atlanta saving cap room. The reason Atlanta should not do this is that Jeffries is overpaid underperforming trash. In the best season of his career he wouldn't have been a suitable replacement for Childress.
Obviously you two have a much higher opinion of Jeffries and Balkman than I do. I think we can find better alternative in free agency at league minimum and that isn't a rebuilding mindset. Quintin Ross is still out there as a defensive stopper. Maurice Evans and Kareem Rush as well. If we're going to take on someone at Jeffries salary we could offer the full MLE to Sasha Vujacic or Ryan Gomes and hope to pry them loose. If Speedy can play he's worth more to the team than either Knick mentioned. If he can't go we get the possibility of getting him off the cap so we can spend more on players next summer without experiencing the luxury tax. I acknowledged that we wouldn't be giving up much in the deal, but it would create additional holes to fill. The old joke is that the baby is so ugly that they had to tie a pork chop around its neck to get the dog to play with it. Jeffries is so bad and so little bang for the buck that it will take a much nicer pork chop than Balkman to get us to play with him.
