Billy Knight?

I know BK was hated around here but I strongly believe we would not be on the verge of loosing Josh Smith if BK was still running the show. Clearly Sund does'nt realize that J Smoove is the life of the party!.

Yeah, I think Sund is playing with fire with our second best player. You really can't do that. Here is a thread by SEATTLE fans on Sund and his unwillingness to budge with RFAs. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Billy Knight was awful and he was also the GM last year when they only offered Smith $9 million a year.

The reason why all those people turned the job down(including Knight himself)is because Gearon is the GM of the team. Sund already had experience in working for an unstable ownership group in Seattle that made him take the blame for the bad moves(like not paying Nate Mcmillan).

I can't really fault Sund for this. As HG said, the owners are the guys who have to pony up and pay the man.

Your exactly right! It's not the GM, it's the ownership, and the ASG don't deserve any respect for the way they've handled Josh Smith this off-season.

This Josh Smith thing really sucks, if we didn't have Horford, we would be screwed in the front court.

How do you know it's not Sund though? Now, I'm definitely not giving the ASG credit but they did agree to trade for Bibby knowing that they'd have to pay Smith/Chill this offseason. Sund didn't draft any of these players, and according to Seattle fans he has a bad relationship with RFAs. It could very well be Sund.

Because ASG hold the $$$. I think most everyone knows that Josh Smith is worth far more than what the Hawks have offered. Not to mention that the Monta Ellis contract pretty much established what he is worth.

If Rick Sund really thinks Smith is worth only $9.5M per season, then he just might be dumber than Billy Knight. And I have a tough time believing that.

Yes, but the GM makes decisions. And, Sund is not and never has been a good GM. Never. He didn't draft these players, he didn't watch them on a nightly basis, and he doesn't have a relationship with them like others in the organization do. He's an outsider, he could very well just be looking at Smith's stats like a low FG% for a PF, lots of turnovers and his stubbornness to shoot the jumper and be lowballing him.

As incompetent as the ASG is, when have they ever been unwilling to pay a player?

Well I'm assuming that Sund has looked at much more than Smith's stats. If we hired a GM who has only seen box scores for the last year then there is going to be a problem. I'm sure that like all new GM's who are hired, he has been studying every player on the team to make a decision on that guy going forward.

I don't know how willing ASG are to pay players. This is the first time they are going to go over the salary cap and also be close to the luxury tax. From the looks of this Smith situation, they don't appear too excited about that.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I wish we could just get this over with. Obviously ASG/Sund need to take their time and weigh their options, but if Smith really is willing to sign the QO like Sekou said then we need to make up our minds on Josh soon.
