ITs really looking like a song and dance where, the Hawks management continues to move or let go players, and management just acts like it was all part of the confusion. Personally losing AL Harrington and getting a really good rookie in Al Horford was actually a step up. But will Al be as effective without such great talent on the wings?
The small forward position has been a log jam for quite sometime in Atlanta and for years people on the outside have felt that between Marvin Williams, Josh Childress, and Josh Smith the Hawks could get either a great point guard or a really decent center. Now it appears the Hawks will loss 2 of them for a couple role players at best. More than likely back at the same position.
I guess it is appearing now histoy will show the heights this franchise reached was being able to grab the 8th seed in a very weak eastern conference. (besides Celtics, Pistons)
What history will not understand is just how close Atlanta was to being something special. Every decade it seems the LA Clippers are on the same verge. They grab a seed to make it to the playoffs and give some team a great run for their money. Then through there own misfortunes their team dissolves into something unrecognizable.

Lets look at the major moves over the last few years.

1. Marvin Williams chosen instead of a point guard like Deron WIlliams
(Marvin will finally play the role that management envisioned this season. I personally think he is ready to put up some 16pts-7rebs average next season. Still not the leader that D. Williams could be.)

2. Joe Johnson traded for Boris Diaw, Rajon Rondo(the 1st pick given) and Robin Lopez(the 2nd pick)
(JJ has become the most recognized Hawk since Dominique, however with JJs time coming to an end in Atlanta Rajon, Boris, and Robin will be just beginning in other places. It is critical that either Atlanta reup JJ next season or this team will be in the cellar for years to come.)

amen you are right in your analysis of how the hawks have messed up. Another point is the way teams are terminally bad and then mess up when there is a legitimate chance to get better. In the hawks case, they should learn how to trade the young talent for viable vets if all we are going to do is lose them when they become free agents. This could be fixed by evaluating early and then deciding who we keep and who we will move. But the biggest thing is to have a philosophy of what type of team we want to be and then do it. Just think the Hornets chose Paul which makes the West choice and the Chandler trade work. Now with the Posey signing they are one big body away (Kwame Brown) from winning the championship. And this is all because of a choice of a great point guard.
