How to statisically measure Marv and Law's potential

I know there has been a lot of decrepency in how we view Marv and Law's potential, and their ability to develop beyond average players. Does anyone know about any references that are available for having analyzed the success rate of nba draft picks? It would be nice to know how much of a caluculated risk we are taking by committing to the development of a recently drafted player. "Success" could be deteremined by statistical production, attaining a certain amount of playing time, team producation when the player in on the floor, etc., but I would steer clear of rating success according to salary. Although it would be nice just to have that info for draft picks in general, breaking down the success rate by draft position (selected in top 5, or between 5 and 10, etc.) or by the position the player plays (PG's v/s C's) would be very interesting. Does anyone know of any such resources?
