Fabi-No?

Post#1 » by lethalweapon3 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 2:16 pm

I'm getting greedy, but I'm hoping by remote chance there's room for one more cost-effective free agent to fill out the roster, assuming Josh and any two of Mario/Jeremy/Othello eventually get retained as well.

I liked Walter Herrmann when he got some burn with Charlotte two seasons ago, before he lost favor with their coach and got traded to Detroit. Preferably I'd seek someone who could backup Marvin but could spell at PF in a pinch. Just going by the Detroit and Charlotte boards, his asking range appears to be hovering around $2.5 mill per. Any other similar SF-PF free agents out there?

I had the same idea, but did not look because I thought he was RFA.
Actually he's UFA, so it's more interesting. He's a real player, but I only have doubts about his role here. I have the feeling that he's more searching playing time than money, as he looks to play way better with a important role. He certainly won't want to come for 10min a game.

If he wants to come here, there is enough in the remaining part of the MLE, but depending to the contract of Smith. But quick maths tell that Smith would have to sign for more than 86M/6yrs to get a first year salary of 11.5M, the limit to stay under luxury zone after using the 3M remaining on the MLE. No problem because Smith will never get this amount of money from ASG, unless he gets a lower contract but front loaded (or decreasing).

In case any of you ATLians aren't fluent in Spanish... Hermann says he's agreed to resign with Detroit.

I too like him too years ago with Charlotte, but he really fell off last year for all the reasons you stated. I don't think I'd go to 2.5M for him though because of the risk, but I've no clue how the Hawks feel about spending to lengthen the rotation.
