OT - Hermann resigns in Detroit

Walter Hermann aka Fabio signed a 1 year deal to return to Detroit. He'd been mentioned in some threads around here as a possible SF signing to compliment the Evans signing in replacing Childress. While I'm not surprised that we didn't sign him, I am surprised that he'd re-up with Detroit after getting so little playing time there after the trade from Charlotte.

While Hermann is aware that he could be a piece in any trade to better the Pistons, he is also aware that he has a good shot at going deep into the postseason and even a championship. Any player in his position would have stayed put. I might be mistaken but I think there were some talks of him going to Europe.

He did get a couple Euro offers according to a few media reports, but he likes the Pistons organization and Dumars really likes Fabio. He'll have a legit shot at solid minutes this year behind Tayshaun Prince.
Especially with Flip Saunders gone and Michael Currys emphasis on playing the most active players despite their star status. Saunders was intimidated by Detroits starters and would play them despite poor efforts. Curry has already made it well known that he will play who ever wants it more, he doesn't care who he benches in the process.
Right now the Pistons depth chart looks like..
C. Billups/R. Stuckey/W. Bynum
R. Hamilton/A. Afflalo
T. Prince/W. Herrmann/W. Sharpe
A. McDyess/J. Maxiell/A. Johnson
R. Wallace/K. Brown/C. Samb

It never ceases to amaze me how Detroit has more depth and better starting talent than Atlanta in spite of drafting late in the 1st round rather than in the lottery and all at a payroll that is similar to Atlanta. I can understand why someone would like the organization.
If Hermann can regain the form he exhibited his first year in Charlotte he'll be a plus for them. I wasn't actually expecting him to go back to Europe. I thought he'd sign elsewhere in the NBA to get more playing time after Flip didn't use him at all. Maybe you're right about Curry making that a possibility without leaving Detroit.

DET is with S.A. one of the only organization able to keep player by re-signing them not to what the market tells, but to contract that 50% is a normal contract and 50% help the team to keep the other players and sign some help, and everybody thinks that way. Basically, market value is an overpaid value for any team (regarding salary cap and tax threshold), and DET contracts are signed a bit under. Kind of dream to build and keep a contender years after years.
And certainly lots of their players are focused on title more than get more money. You can like or not like this team, they can at least be proud of that.

Sure Flop is gone and Curry is now coach but we also said buh bye to Arvis Hayes. Unless Sharpe catches on real quick Fabio should be getting a lot more minutes this year.

WTF, I was really hoping to sign Hermann some weeks ago, he would have been a really good pick, specially if we lose Smith. He can play either SF and PF, he can score, rebound, shoot the 3pt, he could complement Marvin if playing PF and Horford if playing SF because basically he plays where this guys don't play. Another player we miss.
As we cannot sign him now, what about Gelabale, he can play defense, is athletic, can shoot the 3, of course not as versatile as Hermann but is the best SF on the market I suppose. James White is a joke.

Thanx to stevenDXM and e.d. for passing the news along. Pretty much slim pickings among FAs that could play 3-4, although that's not so bad given the team's salary limitations.
Leftover 3-4 options by my estimation:
Carl Landry
Robert Horry
Devean George
Shav Randolph
Lou Amundson
Ryan Bowen (ick)
Pat Garrity (ick^2)

I would consider at F position:
Landry
Fazekas
Kasib Powell
Dorrell Wright
Gelabale
Othello Hunter
and some bigs we could consider
David Harrison
Jamal Magloire
I would personally go with Gelabale, Fazekas and Harrison. I don't think we can sign Landry or Wright as they are restricted, have some doubts with Kasib Powell as I don't know if Miami would match. I think we could sign all this players for 1,5m$ max per year. All are young, have upside and provide something different to the team. Gelabale is an athletic G/F, can defend and shoot the 3pt, Fazekas is a 6-11 PF that can shoot from outside (we don't have that and is good to have if your SF does not have outside shooting) and Harrison is a 7 footer Center that could develop into a serviceable player, all of them have shown something on this years and have put decent stats in limited minutes. I would also consider Magloire, probably a better fit as he perhaps is more a defensive big but I doubt we can sign him cheap.
Bibby/Law/Claxton
JJ/Evans/Gardner
Marvin/Gelabale
Smith/Zaza/Fazekas
Horford/Harrison/Morris

Talking about Gelabale, there was another guy who can hit 3s and plays defense, it's Diawara (DEN F.A.) but he just signs with MIA, a division team...
