It's all Woodson's fault.

Is anyone making an offer? Shouldn't he have been part of someone's summer league?
I don't expect to see him here back with Woody.

According to NBA.com, he's a RFA (as is Mario West). So unlikely to be playing anywhere other than Atlanta, in the NBA anyway, since nobody's going to offer him something that will be matched.

Smabie- the Hawks didn't give Salim a Qualifying Offer so he is an unrestricted free agent.

td00- a team would have needed to invite him to play in the summer league- its not like he can choose to play on his own.

Well I never really thought we treated him right in Atlanta. However, he is a shooting guard in a point guard's body. He can't run the offense, but sometimes Woodson forces him to do so anyways by playign him at the point. He deserved more playing time, but with Woodson, he had to play Johnson for the whole game except a couple seconds he'd have to put in Salim or Mario. All Salim can do is shoot, but he's a very short player. He's probably asking for too much cash, and that's what is keeping him off of these rosters.

I seriously doubt that Salim is asking for more than the minimum. Thats why the Hawks didn't extend him the QO- they were afraid he would take it!

(a) I know that a QO is required for him to be an RFA. Stop acting as if anyone who isn't you is an idiot.
Oh, sorry, that's right. Everyone who isn't you *is* an idiot. You need to offer to change people's lightbulbs, since all you need to do is hold them while the universe revolves around you. Troll.
(b) Where does it say that they did or didn't give him a QO? I have looked in a number of locations, and not seen *any* of the Hawks QOs (not even for Smith nor Childress) listed anywhere.
(c) And, again, NBA.com has him & West listed as a RFA. (No mention of Richardson.)
http://www.nba.com/transactions/movement2008_team.htmlESPN, on the other hand, has both listed as UFAs, and Richardson listed as RFA.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/stor ... FreeAgentsI didn't say he was definitively an RFA, I said that NBA.com says he is, and if so, then he probably won't get offers outside of Atlanta. And given his relationship with Woodson, he might not take the QO even if it was the only offer out there. Now, I'm not saying that NBA.com is correct, they may have mis-information on there (though why someone would feel the need to lie about Salim Stoudamire is anyone's guess). But there you have it. And if I had to make a blind guess between ESPN and NBA as to which was more accurate, at least as far as the Hawks stand, I'd go with NBA.com.
Ok, troll?

I too found websites differing on his status. Even if nba.com is correct and he got a QO, I don't think it would scare other teams away from offering him the minimum. It seemed pretty clear he doesn't get along with Woodson and if the GM matched the offer it would be the biggest coach/gm disconnect on a player outside of J.J. Redick.
I think it is more likely that no one wants to roll the dice on signing him to a guaranteed contract. He might get a camp invite from someone, but he'll have to make the roster to get the minimum or luck into an injury replacement situation. There just isn't that much demand for a 6 foot tall, average speed, long range bomber who only shot 34% from 3 last season who has below average PG skills. He needs to be well over 40% from 3 pt range to outweigh his shortcomings enough to be a sought after player.

Smabie- seriously you may want to consider taking a valium (or something stronger). What about "Smabie- the Hawks didn't give Salim a Qualifying Offer so he is an unrestricted free agent." is calling you an idiot!? Thats just informing you of information that you weren't aware of- I don't know how I could pass on that information in a way that is any less offensive.
I don't have a link to Salim not getting a QO handy- I just follow the FA stuff pretty closely and he didn't get one. Just like Randolph Morris didn't get one and I told people that as well. You know the NBA page is crap since they have Shaun Livingston as a RFA even though he is not. (among other examples of that page being wrong)
I don't particularly care if you believe me or not. I do think its really funny that you are so worried about being called an idiot that you would take offense to what I said though.

kb - I know he has to be invited, but it is a shock if he is an UFA that Boston/NY or someone wouldn't give him a look in the summer league. He has to show his abilities during the offseason to get serious consideration. Since no one has reported a SS (Salim Sighting), it sounds apparent that he either comes back here (highly doubtful) or gets maybe a chance to tryout in training camp.
If you were looking at Ty Lue, how much difference is there in looking at Salim? Perhaps his agent just isn't getting any respectful return calls.
Is Woody/Sund blackballing him?

haha @ the "Official" Salim thread, distinguishing it from all the unofficial threads.
Salim blows. I certainly won't miss him.

Its almost a shame that this thread is already so long. An empty thread would have been pretty damn funny, especially if it got stickied.

I'd just like to announce myself as the only person in the world - fan, official, or otherwise - who wants to sign Salim Stoudamire. And I'm not sorry.

Sounds like Salim is gone for sure according to Sekou.
http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared ... c_duo.htmlAfter speaking briefly with Salim Stoudamire Thursday afternoon, it seems clear to me that he is one player that will not be an option. He doesn’t appear to have any interest in pursuing a future with the Hawks (nor do they with him), which is a sad end to what should have been a much more fruitful relationship for both sides.
Stoudamire said (by phone from Portland) that he’s considering all his options from around the league, options that don’t include a fourth season with the Hawks (who never seemed to find the right fit for him).
It’s too bad. I’ll always believe he could have been a dangerous weapon for the Hawks, if used properly (sort of like Pargo has been throughout his career).

To be honest, I think Salim would be a great fit with the Spurs.

lol @ smabie, c'mon yo Chill Pills are on sale at CVS!
They're $1.99 a bottle with your ValueCare card...
Toronto would appear to be a nice spot for Lil' Assassin, they don't seem to be too deep at PG (Calderon, ???) or even SG (AParker, Kapono). Phoenix wouldn't be bad as long as he's OK with the same PT he got here, and not much more.
All 5-foot-5 of Earl Boykins got $3.5 mill to play for Bologna, so maybe there's a Salami or a Cappicola over there that can toss a few lira Salim's way...
