ESPN: 2008-09 East Predictions

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Sep 1, 2008 10:02 pm

10
Atlanta Hawks
37 45 .451 37 45 .451
Good news: The Hawks gave the Celtics a tougher playoff series than the Lakers did. Bad news: Josh Childress flew to Europe. Good news: The Baby Birds are a year older. Bad news: The East is deeper. More bad news: Another 37-win season probably doesn't get it done. | Offseason Moves

10) The experts have predicted 37 wins for the Atlanta Hawks. This number is ...

38.1% On the money
33.8% Too low
28.2% Too high

10 is way too low. We're actually a legit playoff team this year. I think we'll barely break .500, something like 43-39 and get the 7th or 8th seed. It all comes down to how consistent Josh Smith is, and how dominant Al Horford can become.

My hunch on ESPN's forecasts...

[By "a tad," I'm thinking plus or minus 5 wins...]

Celts: 55 wins (On the $), #1 seed (On the $)
Pistons: 50 wins (On the $), #2 seed (On the $)
Cavs: 50 wins (too high), #3 seed (too high)
Magic: 49 wins (way too high), #4 seed (too high)
Sixers: 47 wins (On the $), #5 seed (too low)
Raps: 45 wins (a tad too high), #6 seed (too high)
Wiz: 43 wins (way too low), #7 seed (way too low)
Heat: 39 wins (a tad too low), #8 seed (too high)
Bulls: 38 wins (On the $), #9 seed (too high)
Hawx: 37 wins (too low), #10 seed (way too low)
Bux: 35 wins (On the $), #11 seed (too high)
Pacers: 34 wins (a tad too high), #12 seed (too high)
Cats: 32 wins (a tad too low), #13 seed (too low)
Knix: 29 wins (too high), #14 seed (way too high lol)
Nets: 28 wins (a tad too low), #15 seed (too low)

By my guesstimates:
1. Celts (55)
2. Pistons (50)
3. Wizards (50)
4. Sixers (47)
5. Hawx (45)
6. Cavs (43)
7. Raps (42)
8. Magic (41)
9. Heat (40)
10. Bulls (38)
11. Cats (36)
12. Bux (35)
13. Pacers (30)
14. Nets (30)
15. Knix (Insert True Age of Medal-Winning China Female Gymnast)

I think 37 wins is a bit low. But our success this season is gonna depend on the health, consistency of our vets and new additions.

Flip, Mo Evans, Speedy and Bibby will determine whether we pull out those extra 6 or 7 wins that get us over .500 and into the playoffs.

From 3-8, those are quite possibly, the most ridiculous Eastern predictions I've seen thus far. Just.....awful

lol

Nah, not awful, no, just... fearless! Perhaps, not fearful of being absolutely awful...

Oh, and you should've seen my debacle of Eastern picks last year... had the NETS winning the Atlantic for godsakes, and the Bulls having the Central on lock. Talk about ridiculous! Let me know your most hated team and I'll pick them to win something!

I trust you're throwing your (far-less-awful) prognostications together, too!

Absolutely. No one ever predicts these things with any real degree of success.
