Salim's Revenge

It took the entire offseason, but it finally happened. And it just may be the thing that gets a Hall of Famer his very last ring. Salim signed with the Spurs.

Now we get to see what he's made of. I always thought Salim's skillset was misused here. I foresee the Boris Diaw fiasco all over again. A little used swingman gets moved to a contender and thrives in ways their previou fans couldn't even imagine.

Salim is a scorer, a sporadic shooter, but definitely a scorer. When he's on, he scores in bunches. Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Salim. Quite a threesome. I predict we're ALL gonna be amazed by what he can do.

Salim, at best is a Tony Delk at his height, type player. Diaw is a fairly versatile player, Salim averaged 1 assist and 1 turnover per 17 minutes over his career.

Salim wasn't much of anything as a Hawk, Boris showed minor signs of good things as a Hawk. Boris started 62 games in 2 seasons as a Hawk, Salim...1.

If Slim had a hard time with Woody's coaching, he's in for a rude awakening. Pop isn't going to tolerate his non-chalant attitude. With Slim, his gripe was about was about playing time here. And in SA, will he really get much burn? Maybe or maybe not. It's think it's mental for Slim... I personally thinks he's a head case.

But I wish him the best.

I doubt that Salim even got a guaranteed contract. Just because he is going to camp doesn't mean he is going to make the roster

I'm not too worried about Salim exacting any kind of "revenge." But like I said in another thread, I am pulling for him.

He will probably be playing just as much with the Spurs as he was with the Hawks assuming he make the team. Regardless he is not a big loss to the Hawks. If he does well for the Spurs good for him.

How can you be afraid of this guy's game after watching him suck for 3 years ?

I am totally surprised because what could he possibly have shown anyone with the minutes he was getting here? It sounds like he has a 2 year deal, so some of it is probably guaranteed.
Good luck to Salim and his new team, but I gotta question how he fits in there if he doesn't like to play defense? You saw how much time Rod Strickland and his cousin Damon got there.

I'm also surprised the Spurs signed him especially considering how much they value high character players. Salim is a 6'1 shooting guard whose assist numbers were almost identical to his turnovers. I thought he gave a solid effort on defense the last 2 years but not nearly enough to compensate for his lack of size and point guard skills in general.

This is the exact opposite of the Diaw situation. Diaw's problem is that he was a very timid player and he just didn't shoot the ball at all for some reason. There were games where he would play close to 30 minutes and only get 1 shot up. Salim is the exact opposite. He gets up shots at a higher rate on the team than any one but Joe(which is all that you need to know when it comes out to his chucking ability). I don't see him lasting long with the Spurs if that trend continues.

Well I'm not upset that he's gone but I can see why a team like the Spurs would take a flier on him.

They need shooters and they have good team defense. They look at Salim being miscast as a PG in ATL and figure, "maybe if we stick him at SG for 15 minutes a night he can fill it up".

He was solid in his first season.
