Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club acquired the draft rights to Cheick Samb (51st overall) from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Maurice Evans... in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft on Wednesday, June 28.

“Cheick Samb is an athletic young player that is a great shot blocker and can run the floor well,” said Dumars. “He has a soft touch around the basket and we really like his upside. We appreciate everything that Maurice Evans did for our team last season. He’s a class individual and we wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Joe Dumars probably wishes he could reverse this trade. And speaking of REVERSE...

Mo Evans was traded because of something that was happening behind the scenes and in the locker room. It was in the best interest of the team to move him. Getting a 7'1" 240lb C who is only 23 yrs old with a sweet shooting touch and a tremendous shotblocker, sure doesn't hurt.

Mo Evans played a great game last night. I wish him well in Atlanta and I hope you guys make it back to the playoffs.

Mo Evans is a really backup wing, but he just didn't fit with the Pistons. They traded him rather then let him rot on the bench, and he wound up on the Lakers where he had a very solid first season and then they traded him to the Magic where he did even better.

He didn't fit in Detroit, they helped get him into a situation where he did. Whats not to like?

Its basically a smaller scale version of what happened to Boris Diaw. Solid player, didn't fit the Hawks, gets traded to the Suns and suddenly hes good. Sure the Hawks got Johnson, but you'd still like to have the versatile Diaw...but would he have been the same player if he stayed?
