Hawks Unsung Hero is......

Post#1 » by fo_o_fo_404 » Sat Nov 8, 2008 6:46 am

Mark Price!

His addition as Shooting Coach has reaped SERIOUS dividends recently.

I mean, before his arrival, JJ was good for a couple of three's per game....but now he's dayum near automatic. Bibby is stroking it like his 2002 year with SAC, Marvin Williams has a three point game now, and Flip Murray and Mo Evans are VERY consistent. And I'm no longer pissed when Smoove jacks up his share of three's! LOL

I feel that most of this success can be attributed to Mark Price working with each player's shooting mechanics.

He's been a GREAT assest to this team so far!

i agree, but on the other hand Evans and Flip were always good 3pt shooters.

The Hawks have done a good job shooting the 3, but Flip Murray hasn't been a good 3 point shooter in his career. I would have never guessed that he is only a 28 % shooter from 3 for his career after seeing him play so far. I'm OK with Marvin shooting 3s but I would prefer Flip and Josh not to-especially with how good both are at going to the basket.

um no they weren't. Evans has improved in the last few years and Flip has never been a good shooter from 3.

Apparently Price really helped the guys in Memphis.

Flip has always been a weak outside shooter and now he is hitting 3s left and right.

But Smith has no business out there shooting 3s. Hopefully one day he will wake up and realize that.

I have not so much problem when he's really free, because his shot is not so bad, but he has to take lots of time to be OK. His shot is very slow, and need it to be effective. So first, he has to understand that and shoot only when nobody guards him. All his other shots make me crazy.

Well, I got to disagree. I mean, he may help a bit, but you can't teach certain thing, right Shaq ? Shooting is much more about you form when you throw the ball. Things like when you get off the floor, time you release the ball, how much you rely on your legs, and things like that. Most of these guys have their own form and they have shot that way since their childhood, that's why you can barely change these things ( Marion, J. Chill). I think what's made this team shoot it well is the fact that most of these shots are not contested (a sign that we're moving the ball) and also that JJ and even Bibby are not playing huge minutes.

I think that Mark Price's addition as shooting coach has helped some but I go to agree with Skyhawk. We have improved our offensive sets greatly, ball movement has been good, and guys like Flip and JJ have been penetrating causing the defense to collapse and leave guys pretty open from beyond the arc. Most NBA players can hit a three when they're wide open and in rhythm.

But whatever the reason is I just hope we keep it going all season!

Good call. I was watching Hawks Live last night and Flip specifically mentioned Price when they interviewed him.

The interesting thing about this is that we missed a TON of wide open shots over the first few games, but it was only really a matter of time until they started to fall. If we can continue to be such a threat from the perimeter, it will really take some pressure off of us offensively.
