For an NBA team to win its first six games is an accomplishment; for a team to do so when four of the six games are on the road is particularly impressive. If the Hawks were an average team and played an average schedule over the first six games (Atlanta's schedule was probably more difficult than average, but just play along with me here), the odds of their winning six straight, when four of the six are on the road, would be just 0.9 percent.

Hollinger talks about several topics. Here is what he said about the Hawks

The percentages he quotes are certainly an eye opener.
Also i think his perseason forcast shows that his PER isn't as all encompassing as he tries to make it. Childress had a higher PER than JJ last year which just shows how flawed it is.

It's funny how the loss of Childress mentions on ESPN and elsewhere have pretty much vanished.

Re: Hollinger eats crow
Losing Childress was so overrated. I liked him a lot, but he was our 6th man..they acted like we just lost Joe Johnson. Our bench is much improved..we have true scorers off it now who are capable of taking games over. Flip Murray has been flat out amazing off the bench with his big shots, Mo Evans provides a true 3 pt shooter off the bench, Acie Law is much improved, Zaza looks way better than he did last year, Jones is providing some good play inside when Zaza and Horford are in foul trouble, and even Morris has looked decent so far. Hollinger disappointed with his 31-51 prediction, and I ran it when it first came out. He had us finishing about 10 games behind the Bobcats, and I knew that was ridiculous. This team is very good when healthy, and it is about time people realize it, and it is about time they realized how much better our bench is, even without Jchill.

If anyone is going to snag that small percentage and blow the season after a 6-0 start, it's the Hawks. I just need some time to get used to the whole winning thing I suppose. But I hope Hollinger is eating crow 50 games into the season as well, because it's still so early.

Frankly Hollinger pulls some numbers (like this) out of nowhere. While technically what he's saying may be accurate (an average team has a %0.9 chance of winning 6 games in a row, 4 on the road) it's deceptive. It doesn't account for the fact that teams go on hot stretches and cold stretches.
Just last year the Blazers, definitely an "average" team (I think they ended with a .500 record) won like a dozen in a row at some point. I wonder what those "odds" are.
