Who is more important?

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Wed Nov 19, 2008 5:34 am

Joe or Josh?

i said this last year, people thought i was crazy. but i will say it again, Josh is more important than Joe.

Hawks can't win without Smoove.

last year or two years ago, Joe was hurt and Hawks still won games, actually, they had alittle winning streak going on.

all players can get prepaired to score more, but it is extremely difficult to prepaire yourself and fill in for what Josh does.

Joe is our best player.

Josh is our most important player.

We don't need to choose between the two, Joe is our scorer and top guard, Smoove is our top defender and forward. Josh is important to these losses because the guards have been driving on us and we don't have anyone who can defend or atleast scare the guards from driving in.

Let me just put it that way, if JJ has an injury that keeps him out for 2-4 weeks, the Hawks will have a top 3 pick next draft. Talent wise and the impact on this team, he's way ahead of any other player we have.

This is a silly argument. Smith and JJ are completely different players and bring very different things to the game. But they are definitely our best players by far. We aren't going to win if either one goes down.

It is the other guys that are the problem.

The hawks have a decent backup SG in Mo Evans. If Zaza is starting then the Hawks are in trouble.

This is a stupid argument.

We know what Joe and Josh bring to the table. If Joe goes out, we lose our only elite offensive player. If Josh goes out, we lose our only elite defensive player. The only way we are going to be a really good team is if both are healthy (which isn't really asking too much).

They are, far and away, the most important players on the team.

kb points out the reason that losing Josh seems to hurt us more and its bad management. Teams shouldn't be so reliant on one player to be their team D.

I said before the season that the Hawks had a good team but if anyone got hurt besides marvin then the team would be in big trouble. Horford or smith goes out then it means that Zaza is being COUNTED on to play significant minutes regardless of matchup. Smith hurts twice as much because Horford just doesn't provide that same shotblocking which is necessary when Bibby is your starting PG. Honestly though the team is so depending on Horford for defensive rebounding that would be a major blow as well. Bibby goes out then it hurts because the Hawks don't have a legit NBA backup PG. (though this is somewhat alleviated because Joe can take over quite a few PG duties- thats why Murray has been better than I thought) Joe goes out and even though they have a legit backup SG-- joe just does so many different things out there. I don't think the team would be hurt nearly as much by Marvin going out and Evans starting.

I think its just a roster designed to work one way. Its not fault tolerant at all. If one thing breaks then it just cascades and causes more problems in so many different areas. The ironic thing is that I think that BK's original plan was to have a team with all sorts of overlapping skills so that this wouldn't happen.

The fall off is great if either is out so trying to discern between 1a and 1b is fruitless.
