Josh Smith to Blazers...What would it take?

Post#1 » by Il_Devo » Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:43 pm

Portland fan here.

Wondering if Josh Smith is considered an "untouchable" within the Hawks organization, or if he could be had if the offer is right?

If he could be had, being a Hawk fan, what would it reasonably take from the Blazers to acquire him in a trade?

Please keep in mind that Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden would not be involved in a trade to get Josh Smith (thats not me being a fanboy, its the Blazer front office considering them untouchable if its not for LeBron, Howard, or Bosh).

it would take at least Aldridge, probably another role player too.

I'll put it this way. With Smoove our defense gives up 88 ppg. Without Smoove our defense gives up 100 ppg. Seeing the players you listed as being off limits then it is safe to say there will be no chance of any trade going through. Also if you are looking to play Smoove at SF, I wouldn't be surprise to see a thread on your board saying "TRADE JOSH SMITH" within the week of getting him.

With the way we're playing right now, I would be shocked if we trade anyone this year.

If the Hawks do this deal I will come down there myself and have a little chat with them!

I gave it a lot of thought. Aldridge and change won't do it. So it would need to be Aldridge and either Pryz/Fernandez/Frye/Outlaw. When I look at Aldridge, one of those players and maybe a late first, I start to think that it starts to look doable.

I agree...Saying Aldridge in untouchable unless you get someone like Lebron/CP3/Dwight back is crazy IMO. He's a good player but he doesn't really do much inside(very low rebounding and FT attempts). I wouldn't even think about trading Smith until Portland put something like Aldridge AND Pryzbilla(which I don't think Portland would do) on the table because we would need to replace Smiths shot blocking if he left.

I don't think that your team can rule out three of their best players and expect to get one of the two guys our team has been built around. The only exeption is if you are offering picks and cap space to a team that is looking to rebuild, and God knows we just came out of the longest rebuilding process we ever want to see.
