The official Amare thread

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... ing_amare/Before a flurry of trade proposals for Amare go up all over this board, I just wanted to see who you guys think we should have on the trading block and who is off limits for a player of Amare's caliber . . . and of course if you would even be willing to trade for him considering the cost.

Other than the occasional offensive explosion, I'm not a big fan. He doesn't give a consistent effort and he's a poor defender. There are a lot of Suns fans that can't stand the guy. I don't think he'd be a big difference maker. Josh Smith has been playing better lately.

If Smith keeps playing this well than we don't need Amare, because Smith is easily the better defender.

i don't see anybody on the hawks roster that we can afford to lose in order to get stoudmire. maybe horford and law (which is what was offered at draft time) for stoudmire but that's it. any more and we're just messing up chemistry with no real improvement in talent.

"Suns could consider dealing Amare"
Another classic realgm headline.

I thought Shaq was going to make Amare the best PF in the NBA. Nope, not happening. I respect Shaq and all but that trade literaly killed the Suns identity. They will make changes, unless they want to be like the Wizards or the Nuggets or the Rockets who have had superstars and have won nothing in the last few years. I don't know if Amare can be as good offensivelly without a guy like Nash. Just look at what happened to S. Marion. Anyway, his defense scares me a bit, and he's still foul prone after being in the league for so long. J. Smith + fillers for Amare ? Maybe, it doesn't excite me too much, but I'd still give it some thoughts.

That is the real problem. He is a solid guy, but can we afford to give up two starters for him? Doubt it. And I also doubt they would be willing to do a Horford or Smith plus a bench guy for Amare.

I agree. I wouldn't give up what it will cost to get him. Only his offense impresses me, and some of that is definitely a result of Nash setting him up. It wouldn't address our need for a true center. That idea of a Horford/Law trade keeps gnawing at me though. I might do that, but I don't think the Suns would.

I don't think Amare would look very good in Mike Woodson's offensive "system". It would be SAR all over again: 24 non-impact points while giving the opposition 21. He owes his legacy to Nash and Dantoni.
I'd offer Horford + garbage, but that's about it.

I don't think Amare would fit well on the Hawks but comparing him to Shareef is like comparing Al Harrington to Dirk. People said the same thing about Gasol until he went to LA and they became elite. Amare is still scoring 21 a game and his true shooting percentage is still over 60 % even in a down year. I just think there are teams that could use him more than the Hawks.

Amare has said that he prefers the 4 to the 5. So, if we traded for him, I believe it means Josh Smith's involved, and Al Horford continues to be our 5. Phoenix would probably prefer Al Horford since he's on his rookie contract, but I don't see us moving him due to Josh Smith being here, unless Amare's comfortable at the 5, and I don't see that happening.

First off, no way in hell the Suns deal him. I've always been a big fan of Amare, but he tends to stop caring during games, and plays defense like he is in the WNBA. He is an outstanding offensive player, but very soft on the defensive end, and tends to let his emotions control how hard he plays at times. I'm not sure that I'd want to deal Josh Smith for him.

We need some fans to get on the trade board and talk about how the Hawks will not do a amare for horford and bibby deal...which seems to be pushing towards that...with us giving up Marvin for a pg along the way.

Would you all be interested in Dirk instead of Amare? I'm a Mavs fan and know its time for us to rebuild. A couple of Mavs posters have put up some ideas with ATL as a partner, involving Josh Smith or Horford as the center pieces. Just wanted to get hawks fans thoughts.

This sort of thing is why I always thought the concept of Al playing like an all-star on offense if he were next to a low post C was off. If Al were next to a low post C with a good post-game, we wouldn't ever go to Al except for jump-shots which is what Amare is doing now. Also, Amare's %s around the hoop and his FTs are down because he can't get to the rim as easily as he could when there was no Jabba the Hut sitting in the paint. Since Amare is a face-up player anyway, its not like he's going to be posting up smaller guys too often and its not like there is room down there anyway. He had a bump last season, but thats when they weren't going to Shaq as much so Amare's volume went up even though his efficiency stayed the same.

Amare has no heart, and is a selfish, childish player. Suns fans HATE him. I wouldn't give up much of value for him.

No way, if we trade for Dirk than all of our scorers are jumpshooters and we'd have noone who could score inside. We also get worse defensively and older.

^ I tend to agree, but Dirk did lead a team with no post-up scorers to the Finals and would have won if the refs hadn't handed that series to Miami. Dirk and Joe would be a tough duo to match up with. It's intriguing...probably not a good idea, but intriguing...

I'd bring in Dirk if we could keep Josh and JJ, and then I would start looking for an-all around low post player to compliment him. Don't think that first trade could work with out us giving up 2 of these three: Horford, Marv, multiple picks

^^^Actually, the more I think about it, the more I realize the impact of his salary and his lack of defense would cause us to have to restructure the team.
