So Sterling wants to blow up his roster
Wonder what it would take for us to pry away Thornton and Kaman in the offseason lol
you think hes dumb enough to accept Marvin and Zaza? I would even give them Smoove and Marvin cuz Thornton is much more keepable than Marvin at this point and it would definitely allow us to keep Bibby...
Kaman
Horford
Thornton
Joe
Bibby
Not a bad starting lineup and could win 50-55 in the east next year....
I know, I know it won't happen, but really would anyone be opposed? And I don't think there's any question that Dunleavy and Sterling are dumb enough to do about anything... haha everytime I get down on our ownership and coaching I just have to look at the Clips to feel better

Sterling isn't dumb. His goal is making money first, winning second. He let a lot of guys go instead of overpaying them which in many cases was a good move. His problem is that he kept Baylor as a GM way too long.
Thornton isn't going anywhere because he is good, young and cheap since he is on his rookie contract. Ditto Gordon.
All of his high priced vets on multiyear deals (Baron, Kaman, Randolph) can be easily had most likely. With the economy in the toilet, the cap going down and a new CBA on the horizon he just wants to get rid of those contracts. He probably doesn't really care what he gets back.

Re: So Sterling wants to blow up his roster
1. Zaza is a free agent and can't be traded.
2. I'd rather have Marvin than Thornton:
Thornton - Age 25 vs. Willams - Age 22
http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/ ... i?id=2KDbd
Marvin is younger, bigger, stronger, a better defender, a better rebounder, a more efficient scorer, a more efficient shooter, and a smarter player.
The only area that Thornton is significantly better in is his ability to score like a #1 option when hot, and Marvin is quickly closing that gap.

i wouldnt trade Marvin or Smith in a trade where the primary target is Kaman or Thornton. And people are talking about throwing in a first round draft pick as well?

I'd trade Smoove (and a 1st??) for Kaman and Gordon.

LA offered Dallas Baron Davis and Chris Kaman for Jason Kidd. Dallas could use the talent, but Baron's contract is outrageous, so it's understandable why Mark Cuban declined, and it's not like he's willing to pay the tax that's he's done during the past. So, basically LA was almost willing to dump both contracts for an expiring contract, so I don't think it would take much to acquire some of LA's talent.
I prefer to keep Marvin Williams over trading for Thornton.
If I'm Sund, I offer Josh Smith for Chris Kaman and their 2009 lottery pick. That gives us an idea of how desperate they are to move Kaman's contract. A more realistic trade might be on draft night that involves the same players, but we just swap first round picks, or if they select for us, and we select for them so be it.

Guys- are you sure that Josh Smith is viewed as an asset with his current contract and the economy the way it is? Kaman has a shorter deal and is owed less money.

I really don't understand where this love for Thornton comes from. I guess people just see a 17ppg sophomore without actually watching the guy play. He's a black hole that shoots 43% from the field despite only attempting 73 3pointers on the year. He averages 1.5apg. Try watching a few Clippers game and see if you still like him. I seriously doubt it.

Thornton is Gerald Wilkins. He plays like an allstar whenever he sees us but he's not so hot against the rest of creation.
edit: Sorry, I meant DAMIEN Wilkins.

hmm...didn't realize thornton was already 25. still, picking him up is at least a 2 game improvement for us. he seems to light us up pretty consistently.

Re: So Sterling wants to blow up his roster
Chris Kaman has essentially the same contract as Josh Smith just 1 year shorter. He's missed more games the last 2 years than Josh has missed his entire career. I know a lot of people are desperate to get a 7 footer in here and move Horford to PF, but Kaman's a major health gamble. How well did that work with signing Speedy?
My understanding is they want to dump Kaman for the salary relief. Josh Smith wouldn't qualify in that matter. The Kaman and Clippers Lottery pick for Smith doesn't actually work as he's BYC until 7/1, but if it were possible I would do it if they were silly enough to move the pick with little to no protection. It's less about Kaman and more about that high pick.
The Clippers have a bunch of undesirable pieces (Baron, Randolph, Kaman) because of their contracts or health and some nice rookie deal pieces that they little incentive to more. We don't really have the salary dump pieces to offer them nor do we have the deep pockets to take on salary. If our owners did and you trust in Kaman coming back then this trade works in trade checker:
Speedy (expiring)
Acie (rookie deal, if option not picked up it would expire)
Randolph Morris (expiring)
2nd round pick
for
Chris Kaman
DeAndre Jordan
Saves Sterling 2M in the first year and clears almost 24M in the 2 years after that. If you also draft a PG to replace Acie's role as "future" PG for the team then you've added a C (albeit a health risk) for almost nothing in talent. The inclusion of Jordan is the bounty for taking on such money.

I don't want Kaman for an expiring to be honest. I have advovated getting Nene in the past but Nene's injuries(torn ACL and a testicular tumor)seemed very likely to be one time incidents. Kaman on the other hand has had nagging foot and back problems. He is just as big of a health risk as Speedy was when we signed him.

Re: So Sterling wants to blow up his roster
Kaman is a very interesting player. He's a true C with above avg scoring/rebounding abilities. I know his D isn't great, that's why he'd be perfect along with Horford. Now, it'd have to be a 3 way, the Clippers are not touching Smith's contract and game when they're stuck with Zack Randolph.
GO HAWKS.

You're probably right in that Sterling isn't looking to add salary (even though Smoove's is only one year longer and $500,000/year bigger than Kaman's), but don't forget the Clips were one of the teams looking to sign Smoove before the season. Sterling might consider the tickets he'd sell with Smoove.
