Since we are getting quite a few off-season trade proposal posted of late, I thought I would try one to see what people think.

to Chicago for
Kirk Hinrich (3yrs 27.5M)

I think we'd still draft a PG in the 1st round to take over for Hinrich once his deal is up and try our best to resign Flip Murray. We'd just let Bibby walk.

Why?
Hinrich is 3 years younger than Bibby and is a stronger defender. With a steady role, I think he can regain his form from 2007. It would hold down our PG position for the foreseeable future with less likelihood of complete skill drop off due to age. By using Speedy's expiring deal, the short term move is very affordable allowing us to better tweak the roster (add a big) for a run while Joe is still under contract.

Why for Chicago?
They save 20M dollars including 2M this year. They get more cap room in 2010 as well. Captain Kirk is no longer in their plans.

I was thinking of this. Hinrich(along with Gordon)is another guy I wouldn't mind replacing Bibby. He isn't as good offensively but hes a better defender and can still spread the floor on offense. I'd ask for Chicago's late 1st round pick. We aren't giving them much but the massive savings we would give them in 2010 for their backup point guard are atleast worth a late 1st rounder in a crap draft IMO.

I like the pick idea. I keep hearing how this is a crap draft, but while I agree it isn't strong, I think you can land some solid rotational players if you select wisely (some franchises do with regularity, others not so much). There aren't much in the way of star caliber guys, and I admit that the 2nd round looks thin as currently projected. However that late 1st pick could be a flyer on a 7 footer like Jerome Jordan (if he declares) or PF like Josh Heytfeld (length) or Jeff Adrien (beef) or an expensive wing with athleticism like Sam Young.

I'd do it if they would. I've said before I'd love to have Hinrich on this team. Would they really let him go for just a salary dump though? No picks or anything?

I definitely agree with you. I was just thinking that a late 1st round pick(in the territory where some of them can be bought for cash)would probably be worth giving up to Chicago considering they already have an extremely young team and they already have a pick in the early to mid teens.

People say the Hawks need more vets but I actually think we need better scouting. The Hawks 9-15 guys are probably as bad as any in the league and I think that's because of our poor drafting(from the high lottery picks to the 2nd rounders). Houston is a team that seems to just plug players in like Brooks,Wafer,and Landry in and they make an impact. Golden State,Boston,and Detroit are some other teams that seem to get quality rotation players late in the draft with regularity. Our young players on the bench either can't play,or have failed to be developed properly under this coaching staff. The best thing about late round picks is that when you do find a good player(Rondo or David Lee for example)...you fill a spot on your roster for 4 years w/ cheap salary.
