Marvin replacement?
The recent Sekou post had me thinking. If Marvin's hurt, and we sign a wing to play some minutes from the D-League (or even J-Chill) would they be able to play in the playoffs?

As long as they weren't on an NBA roster as of March 1st then no problem.

Re: Marvin replacement?
This is where just sitting back and doing nothing waiting for Chil to sign an offersheet hurt us. It really wouldn't hurt to have some 1 like Matt Barnes, Jarvis Hayes,or Roger Mason(although we probably would have had to offer more than SA)just for insurance. Just think if we didn't strike gold and get a great year out of Flip Murray for the vet. minimum?
I know the Hawks worked out James White and Von Wafer in the off-season. Both are on the Rockets now. Wafer has been a steal and White is on a 10 day contract after tearing up the D-League. Maybe the Hawks would be intereste.

Should we take a look at guys like Croshere, dermarr johnson, gelabale, luke jackson, ruben patterson, gelani mccoy, or steven hill? I think a few of these guys would be better than what we already have at the end of the bench...

Re: Marvin replacement?
Most likely, Joe will play more 3 as well as Evans playing more minutes. Expect to see more small ball lineups with Bibby, Flip, and Joe on the court at the same time. Don't expect Woodson to play a D-league call up even if they can play (like that kid over in Charlotte, Cartier Martin who scored 11 against us outplaying Ammo the day before he got traded).

Re: Marvin replacement?
should Marvin be out, can we even re-sign J Chill?
If not, should we look at some vets to get out of retirement such as Bonzi or Horry?
Both could help, should Marvin be out.

Last I heard, Childress was on the DL, as well.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Carlos Delfino, I didn't even think of him. He'd be a good replacement idea for the rest of the season.

Re: Marvin replacement?
FCNATL85, Childress needed to be released from his Olympiakos contract in order to sign here, and the deadline for a restricted free agent to accept a qualifying offer or offer sheet was March 1st.
Dallas, that's a good idea. Meanwhile, I don't know if he would be allow to play in playoffs. You have to be released before March 1st (included) to do that, but I would say it's only released from an NBA contract. Not sure though.

Re: Marvin replacement?
You're right. He's still restricted. I had hoped that he had gotten renounced by Toronto but he hasn't. Too bad, statistically he's even up with Josh Childress at a fraction of the price.

Re: Marvin replacement?
I didn't even think about him being restricted, just did not know if he has to be released from his European contract before March 1st like for an NBA contract to be able to play in playoffs.
But that's right, he's still Restricted like Childress, so released or not before March 1st, the important fact is that March 1st was also the deadline for him to receive an offer or take the Q.O.

The only rule is that you cannot be on an NBA roster march 1st.
The general perception is that the Raptors would not match an offer to Delfino because of their luxury tax situation

Re: Marvin replacement?
Right KB, I was not sure but thought it was only for NBA contract.
Now, March 1st is the deadline for being waived in order to be on a playoffs roster, but it is also the "Last day for a restricted free agent to accept a qualifying offer or offer sheet" (from LarryCoon FAQ).
So we know that a veteran, if waived March 1st or before, can sign when ha wants with any team and make the playoffs, but in this case, what kind of contract a restricted free agent can sign once we past March 1st if it's the deadline to accept a Q.O. or an offer sheet ?
Krstic signed an offer sheet with OKC, and NJ had the rights to match, but it was before March 1st.

Re: Marvin replacement?
you are right D21- I knew that the QO couldn't be accepted (even though it would likely already have expired) but I wasn't aware that players were no longer allowed to sign an offersheet either.
