Some of us expressed interest in getting Hinrich as a starting point guard. However, I questioned our ability to get him for just a salary dump. If the fans' opinion is any indication of his value to the team, it appears they do want to shop Hinrich, but for more than a salary dump. Just a tid bit for the other Hinrich lovers.

As good as Rose is, it's usually when Hinrich is on the court that CHI is making a difference.
Lots of game shows Rose finishing with big numbers, but with CHI being at their best with Hinrich more than Rose, and the +/- shows the same thing in lots of game.

They may hold on to him, because his contract expires before Rose comes off his rookie deal.
Kirk Hinrich is slated to make 26.5M over the next 3 years, which combined with Rose's rookie deal means they are spending about 15M a year for that 2 man PG platoon. If they do it means that they probably watch Ben Gordon walk out of down without another bid to sign him. The reason I thought they would deal Hinrich this summer was to increase cap flexibility in 2010 so they could pitch Wade, Bosh, etc. Without additional moves they will not be able to pursue more than 1 signing and even to do that they would probably have to renounce Tyrus Thomas. I just don't think they'll get where they want to go by letting multiple players walk for nothing and leaving so much cash invested in a backup PG. Of course, he might have to back up both guard positions if Gordon walks for nothing.

I know that the GM loves Hinrich, and there's enough minutes to go around. Hinrich can play both the 1 and 2, and as we've seen with Flip, a decent backup combo G has a chance every night to get as many minutes - and make as much of an impact - as the starters. I never expected CHI to deal Hinrich unless they got back enough to make it worth their while...

I agree, and hoped they would do a salary dump for Hinrich, but despite the need to move a player for salary reasons, it seems the fans believe they can get something in return for a player such as Hinrich.

It makes since to me for them to trade Hinrich since they have a log jam of starter quality talent at the point, and to me, Gordon is more of sixth man at SG because of his lack of height (even if he is the leading scorer).

Maybe Bulls fans want something in return for Hinrich though, because they are afraid Gordon will walk for nothing, and they won't sign a big free agent in 2010, and they would have just lost 2 players for nothing. I guess it's a matter of playing it conservatively. It seems they are willing to move the guy, they just want something besides expiring contracts, maybe they would settle for a decent rookie pick, or an established role player. Some have expressed interest in packaging him with Deng to move that large contract.
