I'm not expecting Chris Paul to be moved, but it's a topic to discuss, and if New Orleans is willing to move him we need to pursue him. They still have other player of interest that will be on the block. This is a Mavericks article that was found on Hoopsworld.com

Who would the Hornets want to get rid of so badly that they'd be willing to part with Paul? Peja Stojakovic ($13.39 million next season and $14.26 in 2010-11) would definitely be part of the deal. Chandler ($12.3 next season and $13.2 in 2010-11) probably would be included, too. I agree that they won't move him, but even if they did, I don't think we would be a good trade partner. They would very likely want a point guard in return. We could sign and trade them an aging point guard in Bibby, or we could give them Flip if they are content selecting a starter (or back up with more than ususal minutes) in the draft, and that's a big if. From there they would probably want to move Chandler's contract, and if we wanted to remain competitive for Paul, we would have to oblige that desire as best we could. We would have to give them Horford, which they might not be too excited about having, since he is 6'10" and would be playing in the West. In the unlikely event they move him, he is likely going somewhere else unless we could very skillfully involve a third team.

EDIT: Just to add to that, I don't think they would interested in Josh Smith that much either, since they would likely package Chandler with Paul, leaving no need for a power forward.

Not to deviate from my previous statement, but just taking a long shot on a trade scenario:

Johnson: 15 mil
Horford: 4.3 mil
Bibby: 8.5? (S&T)

Total = 27.8


Paul: 13.8
Chandler 11.9
Whoever we can get out of Peterson, Posey, and Daniels: About 6.3
Total = 32 mil


That's close to something I guess. Joe's contract would need to be extended though. Don't see them doing it though.

Disagree with Paul being traded at all, but for kicks I will entertain the thought and work the math. Even with his PPP status the following works in Trade Checker:

Chris Paul
Peja Stojakovic
Hilton Armstrong

Joe Johnson (expiring)
Speedy Claxton (expiring)
Acie Law (expiring)
Randolph Morris (expiring)
1st in 2010

Immediate saving of 6.5M dollars next year which should almost be enough to get them out of luxury tax area. Joe gives them a replacement all-star to remain competitive or they can treat him as an expiring contract. The pick is in 2010 to allow the trade to go down after 7/1 if necessary and to save them the cost of another pick this year. Realistically they would need to make another deal to get safely under the luxury tax, but there is only so much you can do with a single deal.

Our line up would become:
Paul/Flip (resigned)
Mo Evans/Mario (resigned)
Marvin (resigned)/Peja
Josh/Hilton
Al/Zaza (resigned)

Add the draft pick of BPA and 2nd round BPA and you have a full roster.

Of course, New Orleans can't be desperate enough to trade the face of the franchise to get rid of the contract of Peja.
