Time for the team to stay focused. The Hawks should know better than anyone what can happen if you get overconfident (Boston last year). I'm interested in what adjustments Spoelstra makes in game 2. Perhaps Beasley starts at the 4 since Haslem wasn't exactly back in the groove from his injury. I'm also thinking that the James Jones starting experiment may be over, but I'm not sure who would get the nod instead.

It really doesn't matter what the Heat do, this series will be determined by how mentally tough we are. If we come out playing confident, intense, and focused like that every night - we will win in 4 or 5 games. We are just so much more talented than the Heat. I was shocked by how bad Wade's supporting cast was last night. If we get complacent, overconfident, intimidated by their home fans - this thing could still go 7 games.

That's how I feel, too. Everyone keeps talking about Wade, but if we continue to get solid contributions from our roster than it really doesn't matter what he does. This series won't be dictated by D Wade, the key is how our guys play. Our overall team is just so much better than Miami's (although their fans hilariously argued that wasn't true). If we do our job we can take these guys in 5 games.

is the Miami (0-0) in the title supposed to be a joke, suggesting they didn't show up?

The first game was just further evidence, as if more was needed, that the Heat don't match up well with the Hawks. That is why so many of us wanted to play Miami instead of Philly.

^^^ Yup. At first I didn't want to face Wade when the Miami/Phili question first came up, but after taking a closer look Miami is a perfect matchup for us. We have a lot of guys that can make things tough for Wade, and they are one of the few playoff teams that can't push us around in the post area.

I think everybody is getting too overconfident.

Miami is not going to shoot that bad from the perimeter again, they were missing a TON of open shots. Wade is not going to miss all those midrange J's that he missed last night, normally he is money from there.

We still suck on the road, and until proven otherwise I have a tough time believing we can win in an extremely hostile playoff environment.

I'm not saying we don't have a better team, because we easily do outside of Wade, but the Heat are not going to shoot that poorly again IMO.

JJ and Flip aren't going to go 8-26 very often either.

Miami hasn't shown that they are capable of scoring on the Hawks. They have scored over 90 on the Hawks only once this season and that was when Horford was out and the Hawks were playing the 2nd game of a back to back.

I agree about the part that we are unproven on the road. I still expect this series to be a long one even after game one considering that we aren't much better then they are on the road. I disagree about Miami somehow missing a ton of open shots being the major reason why they struggled to score. That will likely be Wade's worst game of the series but the Hawks have locked up very good offensive teams like LA,Cleveland,Dallas,Portland, and Denver at home. They are going to have a very hard time getting any where close to their season average in ATL unless Wade drops like 40.

HMFFL- you should know that the mod on the Heat board is the most thin skinned mod I have ever come across. I posted a comment saying "instead of focusing on what the fanbases disagree on, from the comments its clear that both fan bases agree on one thing- PLAY MAGLOIRE MORE! Why can't Spoelestra get on board with something that everyone wants to see?" lane1974 thought that comment was enough to threaten me with suspension. He is the one crossing the line and is abusing his powers as admin. Thats a perfectly legitimate topic of conversation and thats where mods should not be threatening suspension. I do not at all intend to avoid topics of conversation on the heat board just because one guy doesn't like seeing dissenting points of view.

We should just stay away from that Heat board.

Who is that #1 fan guy?

Buckner's right - that guy running the Heat board is a CLOWN. They've been talking plenty of junk over here for a week, and we've been talking plenty of junk over there for a week - but then as soon as we spank them last night - they turn all female. WEAK. Take your medicine.

John Hollinger comments

I'll post just his key points and you can follow the link to read his analysis on each point.

Worst supporting cast: Miami

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra indicated before the series started that roles could change depending on the tenor of the series, and he has to be pondering making wholesale adjustments already. A few he might consider include:

Starting Michael Beasley
Reinstating Jamario Moon to the starting lineup
Sending fewer players to the glass

The last one was the most intriguing to read in my opinion. He theorizes that they're going to lose the battle on the offensive glass anyway and should get back to prevent breaks.

Give it up serious. Your not a mod and this can easily be looked at as trying to bait the Hawk fans. HMFFL

Atlanta vs. Miami

The Miami Heat are arriving in Atlanta on Wednesday, I assume. Because they sent their junior varsity team on Sunday and the Atlanta Hawks spanked them and cruised to one of the easiest playoff victories I have seen in a while. Josh Smith had his own personal dunk contest going on throughout the game.

The Atlanta Hawks are a dangerous team and the scare they put into the Celtics last year is giving them the confidence to excel in this year’s playoffs. This Hawks version is much better defensively and extremely unselfish. Mike Woodson has done one of the best coaching jobs this year and it showed in his defensive plan against Dwyane Wade in Game 1. Wade was 8 for 21 in a devastating display of offense and defense from the Atlanta Hawks.

The Heat played like a young team and left Wade alone on an island which cannot continue to happen or this series will be over in a hurry. This victory is bittersweet for the Hawks because the challenge for Mike Woodson will be too get his team to believe that game 1 was a mirage and the real Heat team along with Wade will be showing up on Wednesday instead of the JV team they just whooped on.

I do not expect the Heat to shoot 36 percent again and struggle from behind the three-point line (4-23), but if they do they will need to grab more than the five offensive rebounds like they did in Game 1. HoopsHype.com NBA Blogs - Eddie Johnson
