I actually really like that pick. A guy with a couple years of experience and the abilty to penetrate.

However, drafting him means we are essentially giving up on AC Law (which seems premature).
And Woody's track record with developing young offensive talent is not very encouraging.

msnbc.com predicts the same.

Jeff Teague PG 6-2 180 Wake Forest
Why, oh why didn’t they just take Chris Paul instead of Marvin Williams? Speedy? Bust. Acie Law? Bust. Mike Bibby? Solid, but may be headed elsewhere. Teague is athletic as they come and has been compared to Monta Ellis. Could be a steal this late.

Wow, whatta surprise; he criticizes us for not drafting Chris Paul. Who woulda guessed that?

And then the moron claims we need to draft a guy who "isn't a pure point guard, he has one of the quickest first steps in the game and is a terrific scorer and an emerging shooter."

Let's see: not a true PG, very quick and a poor shooter, now, who does that remind me of? Why, it's Speedy Claxton. Nbadraft.net says he's a great penetrator who is more of a SG than a PG. Sounds like Acie Law. Add in his 1/1 turnover-to-assist ratio and you have a project.

I KNOW everyone says we should get a PG, but why are we ignoring the fact that Mike Woodson is going to remain our coach? He is a lousy teacher (terrible, actually; a monumentally stupid choice to work with young players) and he absolutely blew it with his PRESENT developmental PG. How can anyone believe drafting a rookie PG (especially one that will have to be nurtured) will turn out differently this time? How can anyone believe drafting another project at PG won't end (again) in disaster?

So long as Woodson is our coach, we need a veteran PG who has already been trained by someone else.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I'm not sure premature is the word I would use with replacing Acie. When healthy he's not shown that he does any one thing well enough to make me lament moving on. I'd still prefer Jonny Flynn or Eric Maynor, but expect both to be gone by the time we pick. Jeff Teague wouldn't be a bad option. He could potentially take up the scoring slack off the bench if Flip Murray chooses to sign elsewhere or is promoted to the 1st unit.

I'm with you parson. And I'll go even further, with Woody as coach, we need not even draft players anymore. Woody is ridiculously bad at developing offensive players.

If the Draft fell like that I think the Hawks would be disappointed. I think I'd prefer Calathes over Teague- I want a guy who can bang from the outside and get the ball int he right place over a PG with tunnel vision. The Hawks have bigs who cannot step outside and draw defenders out of the middle, I think they need the PG to be an outside threat unless he is a true distributor.

I just don't see how you can blame Woodson for Acie not being good enough to play in the league. He simply hasn't shown that he is good enough even when he plays against backups

Acie Law sucks. You sooner some of you accept that, the happier and better adjusted you'll be. He's not going to play for another coach and all of a sudden learn how to not be bad basketball player.

I really hope we find a way to trade up for Blair.

Hey guys, we are doing a mock draft in the Draft Forum.

If one of you wants to come over later and make a pick for the Hawks we would appreciate it.
It's currently the Bobcats pick at #12. Hopefully you guys will be picking soon.

Thanks in advance for your input,
Gopher

I honestly don't think that Teague stays in the draft if he thinks he will fall out of the lottery.

Personally, I would trade out of this draft.

It's incredible to me that there are still people blaming Woody for Acie Law being a bad NBA player. These are the same people who say Woody has nothing to do with the development of Smoove and Marvin and that was all "natural maturation." So what about Acie's "natural maturation?" You guys can't have it both ways here. You can't heap that kind of responsibility on Woody for developing young guys, and then turn around and give him no credit whatsoever for our young players that have actually developed.

It's also incredible to me that these mock draft morons can't stop talking about us passing on Chris Paul. That was four years ago, no one wants to discuss it anymore.

Josh- they think that SMith, Horford, and Marvin would all be perennial allstars with a different coach

I prefer Ty Lawson than Jeff Teague. Jeff is just another shooter rather than a playmaker. If Ty not available, just trade the pick.

I question Lawson's ability to play defense and to avoid injury at the NBA level. Ditto for Flynn.

Both are definitely PG's, though.

I worry about the same things. What galls me is, I had those same questions about Chris Paul, as well. Now, I don't know what to say about small, quick PGs.

I worried about Paul with those things, too, but he would WOW you with his PG skills. Do you feel the same way about Lawson or Flynn?

No, you're right.

My point was that I'm used to seeing smallish PGs in one light and now the (new) NBA anti-handchecking rules have changed their value.

.....and both will be gone in the top 15. The name that is relevant is Maynor, who is a real PG and a good one.
CENSORED... No comment.
